Hi

I'm looking for build suggestions, advice and guidance for my first venture into building a PC. I am interested in a build based on the* Prodigy case which i understand can make use of standard sized components while being of a small form factor.

I have a sum of ~£1200 in mind but shouldn't be seen as definitive. Money isn't a huge factor (relatively) if the component can be justified rather I just want to future proof myself as much as possible and take advantage of new technology.

This is a gaming rig but also something designed to connect up to a HDTV. I have read of tech such as 'Optimus Technology' which allows the GPU output to be routed through the motherboard's HDMI slot which would be very beneficial.

I also like the sound of the tech which allows the motherboard to detect when the GPU isn't needed and use the integrated GPU instead to save on power and turn off any sort of unneeded fan etc.

I'm prepared to pay more to reduce noise but as I've never built a PC before so complicated or involved tech would likely be beyond my capabilities. I really know the least about fans and cooling solutions so am particularly worried about this area.

I would like an optical drive as unfashionable as they are these days. SSD is a no brainer of course for the OS etc alongside a HD. I7 ivy bridge and 16 GB ram etc.

I really need a build / shopping list to be comprehensive as possible with the little additional extras I'll need such as cables, and thermal paste etc (I already own a copy of windows 7).

I know very little about component brands and the little compatibility complexities which could trip up an amateur such as speed of RAM supported by the mobo etc.

Thanks for your time.

ok just need a little more detail to make sure you get an accurate spec, you mentioned i7 an 16 Gb ram, if its just for gaming thats massively overkill you dont need the I7 unless your doing multi thread workstation stuff or just really want it.

A tad overkill on the GPU unless your going to run multi monitors but if you have the cash to burn... swap the GPU for a 7850 if your not one of those people who must have ulta settings in every game and you will have a well balanced rig for £200 less.

If you need/want the I7 take a 3770k for about £100 more.

just thought, not 100% that that cooler will fit on the board, i have the NT06-e on mine and can confirm that it will fit, you can run it without a fan unless your going for a drastic OC then just get one of the low noise 120mm fans to help keep it cool.
