I follow the silence is golden line: If you spend 14hrs a day in front of a PC you want it to be quieter than Harpo Marx.

Fans to a minimum or low speed. Overclocking just slightly or not at all.

Over the years I've always had temps around 40-50 with a peak of 60 at times.

But I've just got a 3800+ X2 running at stock with no case fans, just the AMD CPU fan and the temp is 32' with case 34' !

Since when did these new chips get so cool all of a sudden?

How much could I clock this until the temp starts to average 45' ?

My 4200+ used to do 2.6 on stock voltage and stock cooler... I could push it up to 2.7 before it got a bit too toasty. I'd have thought you should at least be able to get 10-15% with decent temps.

Managed to get 10 x 250 stable with default volts.

The temps went to 45/46. This is the first time I've heard the fan switch to higher gear

Pretty impressive chip. I'm quite happy to leave it at that and just put a couple of 7v fans in there.

This is the mobo with onboard shared vga. Set to 16mb. I don't use it for games.
