Never filled up a car yet, quick question.

Does anyone remember when pumps used to have a clip/latch on them to hold the lever in place and fill the car whilst you stood and spoke to your mate whilst smoking a cigarette?

Well you certainly don't because its been against the law to smoke beside a petrol pump for longer than we've both been alive :p

I really wish there was some sort of retaining latch on petrol pumps so they automatically pump until full, without having to grip it solidly with your hands for what seems like 4 hours when it's freezing cold :(

Never seen one in the short time Ive been driving which is annoying when filling up on a cold forecourt with a slow pump. I seem to remember someone one here mentioning a keyring or something that was specifically designed for jamming the pump handle. Me wants :(

Make one.

Bend a small peice of wire into a U shape and there you go:)

There will be 2 small holes each side of the handle and a little thing that is ment to hook onto a peice of wire that is origonaly on the pump when its first there.

Have a look next time:)

Im lazy. Make it for me.

One of the purposes of you holding the pump while filling is to give an earth to prevent static electricity discharging (moving liquids especially petrols build up static electricity) and igniting fuel.

Oh dear, I'd better change my shoes before I next fill up with petrol then as the soles are an insulator.

The yanks don't have to stand there holding the pump and I don't think their petrol pumps blow up any more often than ours (other than when stupid people crash into the pumps in their Dodge Rams, obviously)

You can refer to anyone from Ireland as Irsih, Northern or the country.

Anyone one of those people who fill up at 6am when the fuels more dense and then hold it as lightly as possible at the end of the tank to get as much free fuel as possible?

Us ****** have loads of tricks. I'll let you in on a secret. On average, the most amount you can go over the money you have without any questions being asked is 3p, i.e. £20.03 if you pay £20. Any more and you're risking confrontation. I have got away with as much as 10p before but not without a drawn out explanation.

I like the idea of filling up in the morning, nice. Another trick is when you are finished, leave the nozzle in the car and lift the hose up as high as possible so any remaining fuel in it goes into the tank.

punto's are a pain in the arse to put petrol in, have to trickle it in or it clicks off, takes about 5 minutes to put in a tank, and when its the middle of winter its bloody freezing.

the other week actually, was putting petrol in and my mate asked me the same question the OP asked, he didnt understand why i put a random 35.76 or something in.

am i the only one that squeezes as much petrol as possible in? i go past a good few clicks until it wont let me put anymore in at all, so i completely fill it up, dunno why.

It will stop on its own.

You'll also find with that car that it stops if you try squeeze the trigger all the way.

Turning the nozzle clockwise by 120 degrees clockwise helps alleviate this.

No skillz man, at filling Puntos or reading threads.
