Using airsoft BB's to balance wheels if your doing offroading. Apparently the normal balancers get knocked off by rocks etc. So they put around 6 ounce of BB's in each tire.

Guess you learn something new everyday :eek:
 
Yep, I have seen it done. You still balance the wheel to see how much weight is required then undo the tyre valve and poor in a set weight of small white plastic beads. As your moving the centrifugal force forces them out and they move to balance the wheel.

Actually pretty good.
 
I'm pretty sure that wont work, the physics of it are all wrong. If the balls are inside and flung to the outer wall they will move to the furthest point from the centre, normally the dead centre of the wheel near the valve as this point slopes in.

There is no force that would pull the balls to the lightest point on the wheel, they will simply move to teh point furthest from the centre which wont be the lightest point in most cases.
 
I can't see this working, they'll surely just end up in one spot making it heavy, thus making it the furthest from centre, attracting more balls?
 
From what ive read, its not for when they are doing the real technical stuff, but for when they are driving round. If you google it, theres lots of threads about it
