Just put together an awesome intel i7 920 rig. Current idle temp ranges from 34-37 C, so I thought I'd give it a try. I don't want to overclock my ram, as it's already pretty nuts.

Could anyone possibly give me the values I need to overclock my CPU from 2.66 up to 3.2?

Thanks.

try 16x200, always best to go with a high BCLK

Why is this? The link previously posted recommends 20x160? I'm not arguing with you - you just clearly know more about this than I do and I don't want to just copy you without knowing why you're doing it, otherwise in terms of overclocking ability, I'll always remain a novice haha.

Thanks guys.

PS if I do end up overclocking to 16x200, do I want to take my QPI as low as possible?

everything other than core clock and FSB(BCLK for i7's) is best left as low as possible, most of the time higher FSB>higher core clock unless the extra multiplier can get you an extra 100MHz+ with a lower FSB

qpi is allways best as low as possible, but you will have to stress test, to make sure its stable.

To do this, use this http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=205 , as shown in that guide i posted.

Now overclocking, (posting from the laptop hehe)
It says my Target DRAM Frequency is 1282MHz. Does that mean it's underclocking it from 1600MHz stock speeds or is it fine to leave it?

Check the memory speed options in your bios, it will probably list different speeds according to the base clock you use. Choose an option that has the memory as close to 1600 as possible without going massivly over it.

Yeh go by the guide, that way u will learn abit whilst doing it, u may need more or less then 1.1 for the speeds ur aiming at, as each cpu is different, thats where the testing comes into it.

200 BCLK give you a nice even memory divider so if you choose 8 for your memory muliplier you can get 1600MHz on your memory dead on.

Overclock failed. Don't know what went wrong. Managed to reset and reboot windows. Going to leave it for now as I have NO idea what went wrong but I've gotan experienced overclocker coming round to help me do it in the near future. Thanks to everyone that tried to help. Giving up now because if I'm honest, when it didn't boot, I actually **** my pants is sheer terror that my pride and joy was totally obliterated haha.

up the voltage to 1.2, see what happens then, also look up the other voltages and set memory speed as low as possible until it's stable

Yeh that generally means you need to up the vcore abit.

But as u have a mate coming around soonish, take note of what he does, ask questions if you are not sure, main thing is, don't be scared of it, we all started off at some point.

Yeah you're exactly right and that's what I intend to do. Thanks again.
