Hi all

I have never played diablio 1 or 2 but with diablio 3 out i was thinking of buying it to try but do i need to know the stroy for 1 & 2 to play 3 though also what type of game is it from what i can see its like a wow game? and anyother info would be brill

Thanks

No you don't need to have played the first two games. There is a "Previously on Diablo"-style recap during the installation.

It's an action RPG. You kill lots of monsters to level up your character and collect loot, sell the loot to upgrade your stuff, repeat.

If that kind of game appeals then this is the best of its kind IMO. :)

Titan Quest and Dungeon Siege are similar in format, if you've ever heard of them.

There's three videos there that will bring you completely up to date in the story in good detail.

It's really not like wow at all :o, it's an aRPG / Hack and slash. It's not a huge genre in terms of number of releases like FPS or RTS, but there's lots of great games that are similar.

There's loads of videos and gameplay of it available on youtube and the Diablo site. That's probably the best way to see what it is.

If you like grinding over and over for new loot, it's a leader in it's class. Sadly, I just don't get on with loot-and-repeat games, apart from Borderlands.

I've not played either 1 or 2 but I remember some old friends raving over them.

But hmmmm. I didn't get on with Borderlands either. Got bored very quickly, only played around 4 hours.

have a go. i would normally never play a game like this but someone from here kindly gifted me a friend key.

i have played only around 30 mins so far but really enjoyed it. i will play some more on the weekend and will probably buy it.

Similar position to the OP here. Been watching the housemate play it, like the idea of looting for better stuff as I always seem to manage to bury tens of hours into any game with it.
He's got a trial I can use so I might give it a shot today.

What is different from this and Borderlands then.......?

Purely the FPS aspect made it fresher for me, plus multiplayer was far better handled compared to Diablo 1/2 (obviously playing over the internet in the 90s sucked).

That said, I only did 2 play-throughs of Borderlands with Soldier and Sniper and haven't touch it since.

I'm in the same boat having never played it either but I've read mixed reviews about the gameplay. Think I'm going to sit on the fence for a bit, maybe until it drops in price a bit...

its a blizzard game, there is no story.

Well there is but its pretty poor and irrelevant, people like blizzard games because the gameplay is polished really high and they run well on basic systems

 Blizzard games have no story?

StarCraft, Warcraft and Diablo all have huge stories. I think you're playing different games from me...

It's not always delivered the best, but the depth of lore and back story is massive in Diablo.

Me and a friend used to play Dungeon Seige 1 and 2 back in the day. We loved playing the COOP mode.

Is diablo 3 the same? Is it the same when you complete the "coop" mode, you can do it again but with the enemy's 3x as hard?

I have also never played an action RPG game before so instead of buying Diablo 3 i thought i would take a gamble on another action RPG at a cheaper price. I bought Torchlight 2 pre-order on steam for 14.99, this pre-order comes with Torchlight 1 for free. Now i have only bought it to see if i actually like the actual gameplay of hacking/slashing/shooting my way through dungeons/caves/underground worlds and not for the story which will be a "hell" of a lot better in D3. Torchlight 1 is a bit cartoony in style but at the same time has some nice graphics. Torchlight 1 is also only single player which is what i wanted as i don't have a clue what i am doing so i am using it as a learning tool (Torchlight 2 will have multiplayer/co-op).

I have to say i am enjoying it so far and have got my character to level 20 in a couple of evenings. It's the type of game, for me, that i keep saying "just another 20 minutes" which then turns into 3 hours.

I have really high hopes for Torchlight II as I really enjoyed the original. It'll be interesting to see which I prefer more between Diablo III and Torchlight II.
