Never upgraded a CPU, what do I do?

So I've always just gone up a generation but this time I'm just going to upgrade to an i7 3770k and be done with it problem is I have never done this..

Do I clear the CMOS first and then install the new chip?
Or do I have to install the new chip first and then clear the CMOS?
 
Check for bios update first just in case its needed for new cpu...saves having to refit old cpu to do update.

Fit cpu..bios..load optimised defaults then away you go :)

Then get it overclocked of course :)
 
As the op is running sli, there are a few games that benefit from the extra threads on the i7. Bf3/4, crysis 3 being ones of note. Made the same move when I was on Z77 and running 670 sli. You get much better consistent gpu use, lower cpu use and games feel a bit smoother.
 
Precisely the reason I want to upgrade ^ GPU usage and extra CPU headroom is very desirable to me the i5 3570k does bottleneck two GTX 670's , depending on game of course but mostly on the most demanding titles I struggle to maintain 90% gpu usage often resulting in a less smooth experience this is not to be confused with micro-stutter I can assure you it's working smoothly but I know the i7 would unleash the full power of the cards ;)
 
And its not something that an fps counter will show. For me games just felt that bit better after moving to the 3770k. I can replicate how sli feels with an i5 in bf4 for example by turning off ht in bios on the chip in sig.
