Just got my LG copy of NW2... any suggestions on a good noob character creation. I thinking a Ranger of some sort?

Any advances on Ranger????

I wouldn't try a ranger for a beginner, they aren't as easy to play well as they sound.

If you want a melee character, look at either a barbarian or a fighter, or if you want to spellcast, a sorcerer is a good beginners char :)

What sort of game do you want to play?

I usually end up with a mix of some sort of fighter and a cleric (barbarian / cleric is my fav). The healing spells are handy, and clerics other spells tend to be ones that enhance the cleric and party or disable the enemy.

Half the fun of the D&D games is playing around with characters combos.

Just looking for a good character to explore the world with to be honest. I'm a complete noob when it comes to NW2, I've played Oblivion, but very new to the whole D&D stuff.

I guess I'm looking for a decent melee guy, with a few spells up his sleeve!

For an interesting character, you could try a mage / thief combination. It can get a bit complicated, but the amount of stuff you can do is really cool - all the stealth stuff and traps, a load of fun spells, and after a few levels you're not too bad in a fight either, especially if your dexterity is high and you focus on dual wield skills.

If that's a bit too much for your first character, just go with bard, which is a sort of jack of all trades character anyway.

Edit - nah, he's serious about the monk. I never play them though, because you don't get to use all the cool armour and weapons you find, because monks work best unarmed and unarmoured.

Is this a leg pull!!!!!!!

No, it's not, monks put together devestating unarmed damage at high levels. The problem is they tend to be quite weak at lower ones so they take time to build up properly.

You could try a warlock/fighter combo in that case, nice and interesting :)

Take fighter at level 1, then a level of warlock at level 2, and work up that way :) Gives you some spells, the ability to enchant your weapon, wear some armour without it breaking your spellcasting ability and generally have some fun :)

That might be one to use when I come to play through the second time.

I quite like the idea of the Theif/Mage combo as mentioned above. Would you say it's better to play as a particular race when doing this comb?

I'd suggest human (no risk of multi-class penalty) or possibly an elf (for the archery bonus)
