Me and my cousin (skscotchegg) are sat here trying to find a new game that we can play co-operatively and we stumbled upon Neverwinter Nights 2.

We have never played any of the games in the series and looking from the screenshots it seems to be a Diabloesque type of game.

We are looking forward to Diablo 3 being released, and stumbling upon this game we are now interested in whether it will keep us entertained for a while.

Therefore, I'd like you guys to give us the Pro's and Cons of this game when played co-operatively.

Any tips, tweaks, words of advice and so on that you can think of before we take the plunge and invest our time and money would be greatly appreciated.

There are many additional updates for it, are these a requirement or can we try the 1st and then add them on as we go along?

Thanks in Advance.

Have you tried Titan Quest and it's addon Immortal Throne, it's a really slick Diablo esk game

The camera will make you want to strangle puppies, for a start :)

This tbh. :D

Played NWN1 to death co-op through the OCs, XPs and others..Generally I've found all Neverwinter Nights games to be more fun when played co-op.

Have yet to co-op NWN2, but frankly the campaign just isnt anywhere near as good as the original. NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer is comparatively brilliant, however :).

So, if you dont mind outdated graphics, then NWN1 is the way to go. Can get two copies of the game and its expansions..probably some premium modules as well..extremely cheap nowadays..

Otherwise, NWN2 is actually a very reasonable playing experience, once you get used to the camera and the interface. Generally it's not a bad game, it just didnt live up to the first one (imho).

Ok, bottom line. No you dont need to have played NWN1 to play NWN2, but i would play NWN1 anyway because it is um..."made of win". Expansion packs for all of the games are generally seperate as well, so you dont have to have played the OC of NWN1 to play Shadows of Undrentide or Hordes of the Underdark. Likewise, with NWN2 you dont need the OC to play Mask of the Betrayer, the OC is just referenced a few times and bears little bearing to the plot.

Possible Con: Avoid if you dont like DND.

NWN 1 and 2 are not like Diablo 2, if you are expecting them to be so then you will be disapointed im afraid.

Half the fun of the NWN series is spending hours upon hours researching your charactors and the D&D rule set, all be it you dont need to so much in the single player aspect but you will still need to read the manual (unlike Diablo type games)

NWN is something you can imerse yourself into for a long time before you get anywhere near finding out all it has to offer.

If you after something to pass the time till D3 then go for Titan Quest.

What i've played of NWN2 i really like, and i've played a lot of Co-Op and lans and it is good fun.

What i will say is its pretty in depth, there is a hell of a lot to the game, a lot more than in diablo.

Although i have a quick question if anyone can answer it, me and my co-op buddy never actually got round to finish it, and after several attempts of trying to get back into it (lost save file), we have become sick with the first few levels. Just wondered if there was an unlock story mode where you could start further on than the beginning etc

I did a little research and it seems that the game is a little buggy when used on Windows 7. They say that when you try to run the game it says that the game cannot find a 3d Card. On the official forums there is some information about replacing a directx DLL file to get it working.

Other people also say that when they try and install it, it says that it cannot be run in a 64bit environment.

This is sort of putting us off. We are now leaning more towards the Titan quest nomination. I remember playing the demo a while back and enjoyed it.

Our next Co-op game we are going to try is Splinter Cell - Chaos Theory. Let's hope there isn't any bugs with that game.

Thanks to everyone who replied!
