I decided to try and play some NWN again as i wanted a good rpg to play and i havnt played NWN for quite a while. This is the first time i tried to play it on vista, all my previous times has been on XP with my old rig (amd xp 1.3ghz, fx5600u) and i could play that perfectly fine on 1024x768 with things like dynamic lighting, grass etc.. on minimum. I now have a e2180, 4gb of some very decent ram, and a 8800gt, yet the game plays choppy.

Ive turned down my settings now to what i used on my old rig, and yet that still doesnt help. Fraps says the fps is 50-80, yet its bad to the point where i cant realy play the game like this.

Ive checked task manager and my cpu isnt going beyond 60% and my ram still has PLENTY of space left, im not sure how to see if my 8800gt is performing correctly with NWN, but its perfectly fine for COD4/crysis.

have you got anything enabled in the control panel (nvid on) aka af or aa?

I just looked through my nvidia settings thing, seeing if anything could be changed (everything was on default, i havnt tried tweaking any of the settings untill now as everything has ran fine). While looking i noticed a 'threaded optimization' setting, set to auto. Well after reading the bioware NWN forums, i found that NWN realy doesnt like dual core CPUs, and the 'threaded optimization' is a setting that takes advantage of multiple cores according to its description, so i set that to off, as well as disabling using multiple cores in the actual NWN settings file and i can now play fine.

The game must be about 6 years old now, so its not supprising that it has some issues, but i must admit that ive never seen a program that has issues with multiple cores. I thought that if a program cant properly use multiple cores, it wont, but after this, i guess that programs will try to use as many cores as they can, even if it causes issues.
