Hi guys, so im looking at getting a new monitor and GPU soon as I want to get a 120hz im not too fussed about the 3D but I do want it to be 3D capable so I cant try it for myself. Im not sure between 24 inch or 27 inch, im thinking if i go 24 ill wish id have tried 27 but im worried 27 may be too big for doing uni work and stuff on it?

24 inch i was looking at the benq XL2420T

27 inch I really like the look of the samsung 950D

Any advice or other suggestions on these monitors would be great..

Just wanted to clarify I am right in thinking that to get the most out of 120Hz i need to be getting 120FPS?

Also if I went with samsung I know it doesnt support Nvidia 3D properly but does anyone have any experience with it and how well that works because if i can I would prefer to stick with Nvidia (don't wanna start the whole 680 Vs 79** debate).....

I know this post is mainly for monitors but advice on which GPU would be helpful as well, at the moment im leaning towards a 680 :)

i have a benq and i love it. You need to play around with the colours to start with (theres a thread with some in) and then it looks awesome.
Looks wicked for gaming on and i was really impressed when i first got it and still am

The reviews around the benq are some of the best I have seen I just wander if I'd have wished id gone for a 27 inch.... Have you tried the 3D on the benq?

nah ive not had chance to try the 3D on the benq yet because im an AMD/ATI guy so it isnt supported but i would love to try it.

For purely gaming I'd go for the Benq, imo I think the Samsung 27 120hz series monitors are heavily overpriced for what they are. And the QC is rather bad on the Samsungs with many reports of excessive light bleed. Not heard so much of an issue with the Benq.

That's not the QC, that's because of the anorexic look and 'unique' design. The S27A750D with a more normal design has far less backlight bleed complaints.

27" here and think its a good size for gaming, im sure you can get nvidia 3d to work on the samsungs or as another choice theres the asus vg278h

27" is too big in my opinion. Since in most cases you have to sit pretty close - it can have a strain on your eyes.

Over a year of using my 26" tv (2010-2011) it damaged my eyes pretty badly. I realised this when my girlfriend could see the train time screens from maybe 20 yards away but I could just see blurry text (it definitely wasn't as bad before I used the tv for my PC). Ended up needing glasses.

20-23" is perfect.

+1

i agree 100% as i did feel eye strain after only few hours of using a 27" monitor & i also found it hard to keep track of all the action on the screen when playing online fps games,it was real pain.

hmmm seems I need to find somewhere that has a 27" on display so I can have a look and see what i think for myself.... the other thing i've noticed with the 750d is that a lot of people were having problems with the display port, does anyone know if this issue was fixed with update drivers?

Also does DSR only apply to unopened, unused items?

Thanks for the info so far

Hi bones you may have seen my views on the 750d, the display is fanatasic and i have 2 other Samsungs, but displayport has issues, 1st off Samsung know that most people buying a Samsung 3D 120hz monitor are going to have an AMD GPU, and most AMD cards have mini display port so why Samsung supply stanndard DP to DP is a mystery.
It would be nice if they supplied that lead as then you would know it isn't a lead problem that they might of actualy tested the lead!
I went out (as OCUK for some reason do not sell mini dp to dp leads) and bought a mini dp to dp lead, startech.com one which was recomended, the problem with that lead is that every now and again a message appears saying this isn't te right resolutuion blah blah blah and you have to change inputs or turn the monitor on and off again.
I decided i will try another option which is a mini dp to dp adapter so i can use the standard dp lead that came with the monitor. I don't get the resolution message like i did with the other lead but every now and again i do get it changing inputs.
Like you may have read some people have it more than others and i think its unacceptable. I will probably RMA it as i have had it for 2 weeks i think 2-3 days i had with out any problems, but it is a shame the display is great for gameing, i will RMA for another see how we get on.
But in my opinion Displayport should not be on these monitors we should not have these problems and theres no Samsung firmware/driver to fix it!
I can't believe not just Samsung as i have heard of other monitors with the problem, wheres the R&D do they think oh well if it changes input a few times its acceptable?
I'm suprised OCUK aren't asking them why all these problems as i know they must be getting returns because of it. In this day and age from a £10 kettle to a £400+ monitor faults like this shouldn't happen.
This is the best display i have ever had for quality picture and smoothness but at the same time it is the most problamatic one i have had all because of diplayport.

Ye seems to be a similar scenario with most people who have had the samsung and I agree when your paying top end prices for a monitor you shouldn't have to deal with these issue no matter how small they are.... Don't particulary wanna pay the extra £80 for the 950D just for a dvi especially when that seems to have problems with the backlight.....

Whats the 3D like on the samsung? I'm assuming your using an AMD card with it?

Hi bones the £d is vey good with the tridef software (i have HD 6970 2gb GPU) Avatar looks great in 3d and so do some yout ube vids! BF3 lookls great as well but i find it harder toplay in 3d as the depth of the triangliar markers above friendly/enemy heads are at differeent depths so it can get confusing.
starcraft 2 is great, wasn't impressed with crysis 2 though. But to be fair i mainly got it for th 120hz refresh as i can go over 60 fps now with no screen tear and not having to enable v-sync. Also the backlight on mine isn't a problem very slight but compared to all my other monitors including 2 Samsungs its the best picture wise.

Well I want it mainly for the 120hz but I'd like to have the 3D to see what it's like, seems everyone feels its pretty much dependent on the game.... I'm probably going to wait and see if Samsung do anything to sort out the display port and see what the 670's are like...

Thanks for the info

Hi again yeah probably wise move, the good thing about the tridef software is you can make your own profiles for games theres lots of options you can adjust to your own eyes, depth etc so you don't have to use the built in ones, also theres ones other people have made on the tridef website you can try out. I was going to buy an Asus monitor but as they are aimed towards Nvidia that is the reason i went with Samsung. If you get a 670 i would get the Asus.

Had a ridiculous amount of light bleed from my 750D. But I agree there seems to be fewer issues with the 750D overall (other than DP issues), main reason I went for it over the 950D.
