New 1D

It just occured to me. If they're at 10fps now, will they continue to go up to 24fps so you can essentially make movies? :p

Probably.

But camera buffer and memory card size/speed has to improve as well. Then we can all shoot our very own Uber HDR Videos.

I wonder if it's possible to just take one shot with it set to continuous? :p you press the shutter and you've taken 6 shots before you've had time to take your finger off.

I doubt Canon will go that fast. They have had to make serious changes to the MKIII just to improve on the 8.5 fps of the MKII. At 24fps the viewfinder would completely black out, the fast shutter speed required to reach 24 fps would make it very unusable and the lens would not be able to open up the aperture in between shots fast enough to maintain focus.

hehe, even on the 20D on continuous 5fps it’s easy to take two shots.

It's possible in the custom functions to set your own preference for high and low speed continuous shooting. So if 10 fps is too fast then set high speed to 8fps and low speed to 4 fps :)

On the MkII it's do-able but tricky, I normally get a couple but I don't tend to leave it high speed mode anyway.

Yeah and i guess the max shutter speed would be 1/24 as well? It would be kinda funny if it does ever get to that stage though (i expect it will at some point).

Even the MkIII won't be able to do 1/100s at 10fps. It'll probably only hit 10fps at <1/160s due to all the other stuff it has to do between shots, I know I can't get 8fps out of the MkII at less than about 1/200s.

Digital SLRs will one day be a lot faster than 10fps, but they will essentially be very different cameras to what we know. Basically, the flipping mirror mechanism we know will need to have gone and shutter speed be dictated by the sensor itself. At the moment the sensors can do it, and do it in other cameras, just not fast enough for what a DSLR owner will want.

Personally I was disappointed with the announcement of the 1DmkIII, not because its a bad camera, but because I was hoping for the announcement of a 5D succesor so I could get a cheaper 5D. As it is the 5D's price will stay where it is a bit longer.

I'll carry on saving up I guess :)
