Whats the best upgrade pci-e card up to £200 availible at the mo to replace my ageing agp ati x800xl so i can play games at there best on my new viewsonic 20" widesceen monitor?

If you can stretch to an X1900XT 512MB i'd go for one of those.

Otherwise it's down to the 7900GTO @ GTX speeds OR X1900XT 256MB.

Please DON'T ask which one of those two is the best :D

Just go for what you prefer, the performance is pretty much identical, probably too close for many to notice.

Completely agree with Tute! :)

both the X1900XT and 7900GTO perform admirably. Whichever you choose will be down to your personal preference.

might be worth considering which games you like to play. The cards have slight advantages in different games.
If oblivion the x1900xt might be the better choice

Beg, borrow, or steal £23 to pick up the 512MB Edition.

It's faster than both, and WELL WORTH the extra.

The cooler on the 7900 GTO is pretty much silent whearas the x1900xt can get pretty noisey. The ATI has an advantage as it can do both AA and HDR but atm oblivion and Call of Juarez are the only games that can do that

Actually you can do it in a bunch of games now. Oblivion and Call Of Juarez are the obvious ones, but it can also be done in Far Cry, Splinter Cell, Serious Sam 2, etc. You don't even need the "Chuck" patch for half of those anymore either, but that's moot as it's now slipstreamed into Catalyst 6.10 after much waiting. :)

Yes thats his budget, but its got nothing to do with it, pointless buying a DX9 card when next gen is 7 days away, as quoted above. ;)

Eh?

This is against everything you have been moaning on about.

Dont get DX 10 until Vista etc...

Your priceless

Eh, its not about DX10, new gen cards are faster in DX9, and have DX10 compat, so its pointless buying a DX9 card now, new gens next week, as you and everyone else keeps saying. :p

Your priceless, whats wrong, im now agreeing.

But what about the people with a budget of £200 and not £400-£500?

They're all gonna be stuck without cards!!!
