New 360, slim over elite?

a certian website is selling elites for 89.99 with a years warrenty atm picked one up a few weeks ago very good condiction and with the jasper rev so very happy with it!!

During the weekend went to upgrade my elite Dash etc. Its not been turned on for months..!! Soon as I pressed the power button - RROD.

TBH I'll call microsoft and have the box replaced as its under RROD warranty still and maybe look at getting rid. You'd think after not using it all that much it'd not RROD.. lol

I never used it much, was only being kept for Forza 3 so quite surprised it RROD - I think the last time I turned it on was maybe start of March this year? If the new slim is meant to resolve the RROD failure then get that instead..

I'm not even sure its called RROD on the slim as it has a different front panel..!! lol:p

No. Microsoft's idea of fixing the overheating was completely changing the design of the console. Maybe you should look into such things before making such a wild claim.

Yes, they did redesign the console only for people to be complaining about the new system overheating just weeks after launch. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.
Yes, it'll probably be more reliable than the elite but no one can say for sure. 3 years warranty on the elite is very appealing when you consider this.

Most of those cases were probably people putting AV equipment on top of the Slim, thinking the fans were still at the back of it. The console, like any other device that has a fan, still needs plenty of space to breathe.

My understanding is that for the slim version the main method of stopping it RROD'ing was simply for it to realise the temperature was too high and then shut itself down?

That and the fact that the GPU and CPU are on a single die (or on top of one another, can't remember), coupled with a much larger fan means it will stay cooler.

I replaced my very early premium with an elite a few weeks back as I managed to pick one up for £100 brand new. It just comes down to cost, if you can get an elite for around £100 it makes sense - if not I'd go with the newer version.

Love the slim I traded in my old 60gb xbox to buy.
Hate pointless threads where OP had already made up his mind and didn't really need to ask.
Hate myself even more for bumping said thread
