Hi guys,

My little bro got a Pro for Christmas and he's trying to connect it to a screen that only has DVI and composite inputs. So we bought the VGA cable and I found out a couple of VGA->DVI converters.

So we have 360 -> VGA - > DVI adaptor -> Screen.

If we do this the Xbox boots, the controller connects but the console doesn't 'start' (spinning ring of light and an image) for a good 3 or 4 minutes nor does the screen detect a signal.

If we connect it to the screen via old fashioned composite (shudder) and it starts fine. If he plugs it into my screen with either component or directly using the VGA cable it works fine. So it's just the adaptor that's causing the problem but I've tried three different ones.

Any ideas?

The VGA cable makes both my machine and his boot fine when connected to my screen, so the VGA cable is fine. The last thing I wanted to check was my machine on his screen but the new power plug is ever so slightly different and won't fit in my machine and it will be a mission to get mine out from the mess of cables- one to try later when he stops playing GH3 for five mins :D

Also as Mr *** suggests, considering going into the shops tomorrow and getting a HDMI/DVI lead and see if that works.

Once it boots the picture is fine and there is no lag.

Edit:hahah w u d is censored :D

I've managed to plug mine into his screen using the adaptor and it starts first time. If you don't have a disc in his 360 it will boot in about a minute, with a disc in over five minutes- but this is only the case with the DVI converter. Using anything else, the 360 boots just like every other 360.

I wonder if there are hardware differences in this respect between my old 360 and this new one? I really don't think it's a hardware fault, using VGA works fine, it's just as soon as you use the converter.

Well the solution in our household seems to be that my bro will be getting a 19" Sammy TV for his birthday in two weeks. Lucky him!
