All over the world...
The next Xbox 360 firmware update will bring more "integration and innovation", says Microsoft's Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb.

The update details comes in the Major's latest podcast, in which the MS blogger says unlike PlayStation Home the Xbox 360 interface will always have games integrated into the experience.

"Our philosophy is that games are at the center of everything we do," he says. "Think about how Live works; the guide is always integrated, I can always view my messages, see who's online, cross-game invites across all games, leaderboards, achievement - all that kind of stuff.

"The new stuff we're bringing in Spring adds more functionality and integration," he promises. "We know you want to hear about it. Stay tuned".

Expectedly, no concrete details on the update are offered beyond Hryb's vague hint, leaving us to contemplate wildly over Microsoft's plans. Will MS follow in Sony's lead adding more "virtual world"-style interface features?

Hmmm i wonder what new stuff this update will bring, perhaps they will be adding a few new things due to the PS3 finally deciding to make an appearance on our shores...

Two things I'd like to see -

1) Ability to read NTFS drives
2) Navigate Video section using folders rather than one humongous list.

The downtime next week isn't for the Spring dash update - that's coming later.

Indeed..id love to see group chat being implemented tbh. Cant think of anything else to put in there as the Xbox Live system is pretty spot on...

Found this info on the next update:

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/13197/Xbox-360-Spring-Dashboard-Update-Features-Leaked/

Windows Live Messenger interoperability:
Add up to 600 Windows Live Messenger contacts to your Xbox Live's Friends List.
Basic text chat functionality with Windows Live Messenger users. Audio and video might be in the works.
You'll be able to chat with up to 6 friends online while playing games or watching movies.
Your Windows Live Messenger contacts will know which games you are playing, as well as your gamertag.
You'll see your Friends status, whether they are playing a game on Online on Windows Live Messenger.

Xbox Live Marketplace:
Xbox Live Marketplace will now have its own blade.
The XBL Marketplace blade can have its own skin, independent of the dashboard's theme.
The XBL Marketplace blade will change looks depending on such events such a season, a holiday, etc.

Achievements:
When you unlock a new achievement, the pop up will show which Achievement you got and how many points you earned.

Downloads:
Auto-shutdown: When enabled, it turns off your console after 6 hours on inactivity or after all the items in the queue were downloaded.
Low-power downloading mode: it turns off all your fans when you leave the console downloading content.
View partially downloaded movies: self explanatory; you can view parts of a movie that have been downloaded.

Videos are stored in catergory under the media/video just that unlike the USA service some are TV based others movies or trailers and of course game related. Being able to create/arrange your own folders and sort would be a nicer touch.

Id like to see a Vista make over for Live to be honest, looking kinda bland now so it is, definately could be better ....

so nothing interesting in this update then apart from auto shutdown of downloads. 1st thing i'll be doing is disabling the MSN feature, who wants to chat to friends whilst playing a game or watching a dvd, pointless IMHO. What they should have done is implemented 4 way video chat, its been asked for since day 1 and cannot be hard to do

Well it says video chat possibly on way through MSN so it might come.

TBH the update looks alright, at least they are doing new stuff and its normally quite big peices not just little things that will go un-noticed 99% of the time.

yea i saw a clip some where about the windows messenger live which is sweet now all i want is an opera browser and am set to sell my pc :p (yea right like that will happen)
