New 3700SD arrive is it good stepping?

Nice results.

The 3700 SD is only a little more than the 146 Opterons now and have a 11Multi. Ill be getting one of these before an opty for my other rig.

BUT you can get 3700s quite easily, but getting hold of a 146 is definately harder. I think with the Opteron price rises, the 'Opteron Mania' will defiantely wane over the next few weeks.

As much as I think the opterons are great I still think the SD is a better one to go for.

Why?

Well, you can get your hands on a SD easily and you get your 11x multi. Making it easier to hit higher clocks.

Or then again I'm just being bias.

Just keeping you guys updated.

I'm going to play around to make it stable during the week.

Question. I got 2 CPU's last week, one has to go. One of them is the 3700+ SD, KAB2E stepping which you are discussing here, the other is a 3800+ X2, LDBHE. Which should I keep? I'll be clocking it.
Obviously the 3800+ must be better if it's more expensive? Will it clock well? My main use is for general productivity stuff but I do want top notch performance in games too.

Id see what they clock too frst. The X2 should hit around 2.5-2.8 hopefull and
im sure the 3700 would be the same.

Id keep the X2 if it was me mate. The 3700 would have the endge in games if it clocked higher but the X2 will be awsome in windows and even more when the latest games support it.

Will probably end up sticking with the X2 then, but it'll be a shame to not have such a good clocking chip like the KAB2E :)
Does the 512kb cache per core in the X2 limit it much, compared to the 1Mb cache in the 3700 for the single core? I know it's the same amount in total, I'm just curious as to what difference it makes.

Got my 3700 about 2 weeks ago - currently running various setups to get to my first mark of 2.6 ghz.

This is my first time overclocking anything and setting a base mark each time i do a bit of overclocking. 2.6 and then see what happens.

Currently runnin prime 95 - 235*11 (2585) and going ok so far.

Stock CPU cooler and load temps are 43 degrees so far and stable.

What sort of voolts are you putting thru that CPU, also what Bios version are you running?

In answer to your question

I am now up to 2.7Ghz and ran prime95 for 10 hours overnight and everything was fine. Max CPU temp was 44 degrees on stock AMD cooler. idles @ 32 degrees

This is 245fsb x 11multi.

Stock voltage of 1.4 v core. (not changed that at all) Not sure on bios version - will confirm tonight for you when i get home.

Only bit i'm not sure on so far is the whole ram thing/dividers etc.

Currently my memory is running at 2.5CAS, 3, 3, 7, it also says frequency of 245Mhz ? Will need to do some more reading on this but any help on explaining the memory would be great!!
