Just bought a new Saphire 380 4gb card last week
worked fine all week under stress

today speedfan (and catalyst) tells me the gpu fan is spinning at 539640 rpm
start a game up the fans don't spin at all and eventually the gpu gets to 104 degrees and the pc turns off

if i just let it idle it stays at 55c happily

Looks like a fan fault. Idle temps should be lower than that (about 30C-40C). Try uninstalling drivers completely with DDU and then install the latest Catalyst 15.8 beta. Also install MSI Afterburner and monitor fans and temperature, etc.

Are the fans spinning if you check visually or at bootup? May be worth removing card and checking fan wiring and re-seating. If the card has dual bios then switch to the other bios via the switch on top of the card.

Also try testing it in another pc if possible.
If nothing works then RMA it.

have you set a profile in speed fan by mistake? The fans should stay off till they reach a certain temp anyway.

Can you force the fan to come on with your own profile in something like MSI Afterburner?

its odd because if i leave speedfan running with gpu fan at 100 and go away for a few mins it behaves (1761rpm) but anything (any other speedfan setting or speedfan closed) else gets crazy fan speeds reported and no fans spinning
