Hey all,

For those of you who have a 3ds or a 'new' 3ds, can you tell me whether the cost increase is justified between the two? I fancy one for some old handheld console amusement, and am thinking that I might let mini me have a go on it from time to time too.

I realise the 3d is no good for his eyes, so will turn that off, but I'm just wondering whether the new version is something that should be purchased over the older version?

Thanks

I am also interested in people's views on this. I have the 'old' 3DSxl, wondering if the 'new' 3DSxl is worth the investment.

I know the additional features etc..

Ive got a new one.

tbh although things do look a little crisper. unless you plan on playing games which must have it, then there is little point.

the circle pad pro works fine in most cases.

i puchased one thinking there would be a decent amount of new games requiring the extra cpu oomph but its largely been a waste of money when my standard xl ran things just fine. there are some improvements to the 3d but imo its not worth the extra.

just my 2p

I have all models of the 3DS and 2DS. Get the latest model, no point getting older tech. The New 3DS XL fits nicer in my hand compared to old 3DS XL and the extra buttons do help.

I finally could play Kid Icarus without silly attachments.

I found the 3D to be significantly better on a friends "new" model, compared to my old 3DS. I usually leave the 3D off, but if I had a new one, I'd probably keep it on!

Menus, etc are all a little quicker, from what I noticed.
I hear that some of the newer games have better textures, on the new 3DS, but I'm sure they can't really polish them up that well...

If I was buying now, I'd definitely want the new one, and if it weren't for the overly high game prices, I'd get one now.

Local tesco extra didn't have any stock when I went shopping but they did have a bare 3ds console for 69!

Absolutely for the persistent 3D effect. I have duff eyes anyway but on the old handheld I had to hold it at a certain angle and play rigid otherwise the effect, and my eye sight strain quickened. Much better experience on the newer model it which tracks your eyes apparently. Otherwise Xenoblade or why bother?

Between the kids and myself, we've got a New 3DS, 3DS XL and original 3DS. I've got the 3DS (hand me down). New 3DS is really very good. 3D is infinitely more usable. It's as comfy as the XL and significantly more comfortable than the 3DS. It's a lot quicker, noticeably.

I'd say the costs are justified.

I didn't have a 3DS of any sort, I would have been fine with the old one I think as not bothered about Xenoblade or using the 3D most of the time. But the SNES coloured buttons on the smaller white one had me sold, not usually a sucker but couldn't resist.

I don't have particularly large hands, but longish fingers and do find it quite uncomfortable after a while though, think in hindsight an XL would have been a better choice but wasn't keen on having a larger screen but the same resolution.

Was listening to a Nintendo podcast (Radio Free Nintendo) and they were saying saying Smash Bros. run a lot better on the new one, even between menus and the like, much smoother experience.

I have both and the new version is much better when it come to the 3D viewing angles, that was the main reason I got it really.

Overall if you're going to buy one or the other just get the new one as the advantages are worth it imo.

Got given a Wii U tonight........ tempted to just invest the money in a few games for that! Quite a fun console so far :) I've also been gifted an old Dsi so I need a new console corner now as I just don't have the room under the tv!

If you play the 3DS a lot it's worth it.
Some games get subtle upgrades/run better, menus and loading times are heavily reduced, the 3D is FAR better and now tracks your eyes or some such to calculate, so if it ever does lose focus, a quick tilt away and then back and it sorts itself. Also battery life is a bit better and it's more comfortable than the original.

Worthy upgrade IF you use it a reasonable amount or want the better 3D.
