New 3rd Gen S2000

I'm glad this is happening, but that article is total crap.

All I got from it is that there is a new S2000 coming (maybe) that it will be faster than a car that was obviously going to be - and always has been - slower, and there "might" be a type R version, but who knows.

Great!

Meh. This has been on the cards for years. Every few years Autocar or Auto Express trots out a rendered image of what a new S2000 could look like and cites some Honda insider as the source.

I'll believe it when I see an actual prototype at a car show.

It can be whatever it wants but what made the S2000 the awesome machine that we all love is that peach of the engine. Who doesn't want 9000rpm in a road car that is affordable to the masses!

Yet we all know it will not have an engine like this which in turn will mean Honda shoots itself in the foot as they have lost their USP!

I can quite easily see the original S2000 becoming some sort of Halo car when the numbers dwindle and we are all driving around in 1.0 turbos!

2nd Gen surely? Not sure the facelift should count as 2nd Gen, it was pretty mild as facelifts go!

If they do release it - more chance now than the last time rumours were out - and style it like that then you can sign me up!

Black with red leather.

At least Autocar now show the list of cars they butchered bits off for the render :p

TBH I love the idea, I wouldn't mind if it was FI as long as it didn't feel unresponsive but if it looked like that I wouldn't go near one.

it'd be awesome! original s2k is totally on my list of cars to own, sadly they're going up in prices! :o

They actually have plans to make a new one as the regional subsidiaries keep knocking on the HQ's door for a sportscar and we will see one once they get a RWD platform sorted, but it won't be any time soon. :D

Agree the design pictures do look good, but as mentioned. The rumour of a new S2000 has been going round for years.
Can see why Honda would want to target the lower end of the market (MX5 competitor) with a 150bhp ish, but imo, it would wreck the S2000 image. If anything, it has to have the CTR engine (Not a de-tuned version for a S2000 Type R).

As a owner of the original S2000, I love the car and fear the way of emissions will destroy any chances of making a GOOD car.

Feel sorry for the OC member who wrote there's off. Quite a few has already "died" this winter. Seen about 3 - 4 post on the S2K forum about stacks.
