Hey all!

I'm looking to get a new 40" TV! I'm looking to spend no more than £400, and really only looking for 1080p, and to have Smart TV functions such as; Netflix, Amazon Prime, 4OD, BBC iPlayer etc.

I've been looking for a while, and I'm down to a couple of TVs:

Samsung UE40H6400

or

Sony KDL40W705C

They both look fairly similar, and they are the same price at £379.99.

I've always gone with Sonys in the past, but I've heard good things about the Samsungs.

I'll mostly be using it for Gaming (PC) & Watching Netflix/Freeview

Any opinions on either?

Thanks,
Marky

i have the samsung. Its pretty good. Does everything i could ask for (netflix, youtube etc, pc gaming, 3d stuff, recording to hdd, freeview hd)

Not sure about the voice activated search tho..thats a bit hit n miss.

I've been reading reviews of the Samsung and found that in "Game" mode the input lag is 80ms+, whereas in all other modes, it's around 40ms... Admittedly I don't really know what all that means, but I will be using this TV for gaming as well, and it'd be a little annoying having to change the to mode every time I want to switch from gaming to watching a movie. Have you seen any real difference?

I think I'm going to go to the store and take a look at them in person - reading all these reviews its playing with my mind :p

It's a very close call, only downside to the Sony is that I've that model can take 30 seconds to a minute to become responsive when you turn it on.

Sony might have a slightly better input lag, but it'll only be marginal.

Doubt you'd regret buying either, they are both easily the best two choices at that price point.

I've also seen that the Sony takes a while to respond when you first turn it on... That's also a little annoying considering I'm going to be switching outputs often.

I went for the Sony KDL-42W706B which is a absolutely stunning 1920 x 1080P , you might be able to buy cheaper now

Perfect for watching blu ray and playing games , no lag or motion blur

42" is a little too big for what I need - I know it's only 2" more than a 40", but I feel I'm already pushing it with a 40" considering I have a 32" right now :p
