I previously posted I had a 8800gt that had video ram issues producing red lines across the screen in random areas. This was especially bad in games but also affected the desktop etc.

Mt new 5850hd arrived today and the problem seems to have persisted! Very annoying as I wouldn't have upgraded till at least the summer otherwise.

Could it be anything else thats causing it? I had tried the usual different drivers, cables etc.

is your CPU overclocked?

Nothing OC'd at the moment and CPU has never been altered. I have been advised to run "memtest86" as it could be the ram, but i was told it was a Video Ram problem and so bought a new card!

Its the screen :( I just flicked it onto TV mode and the artifacts are there despite the computer being off! Woo thats £280 spent too early! Thanks for the advice again! Hopefully LG have a decent warranty!

Im going to keep it and the monitor will be picked up this week and switched for a new one all by LG!

Only issue now is the new cards 1920 x1080 resolution doesn't fill the whole screen. I had this problem before but can't remember how it was solved :s

Well its native is 1680 x 1050 its 22" LG screen. Thing is when I switched to using dv to hdmi cable I must have changed some setting as my desktop was then 1920 x 1080 and it fit the screen without any trouble! I just can't remember what I did to sort it :(

I don't see how it could have been 1920x1080 and fit and worked. Surely it either would have been at 1680x1050, or the desktop would have been larger than the screen area?

So just set your res to 1680x1050.

Definitely was 1920 x1080 on my 8800gt!For example, when playing a game, in the resolution options I could set it to Desktop (1920 x1080), I may have a screen somewhere. I think it may have been to do with the LG screen drivers or nvidia stuff. I am new to ATI so will have a play when back from work. Thanks for your speedy replies!

Dunno owt about computer monitors nowadays (I still love my CRT), but is it possible your LG is just capable of accepting a 1920x1080 input, which it then downscales to its native 1680x1050? Sort of like some HD TVs that are only really 720P can accept a 1080 input and they just downscale it to 720. If this is the case there's really no point selecting a mode above the native res as you won't gain any quality (and might loose some in the downscaling process) but your PC will still be pumping out 1920x1080 with the associated speed hit over 1680x1050.

I may well be talking a load of bollarks though...
