New 640MB 8800GTS with 112 Stream Processors?

Wouldn't make any sense compared to nVIDIA's previous naming system. GTS is supposed to be better than GT. If I were nVIDIA's marketing people I'd call it something else - maybe an 8800GTO?

You're right, it does indeed sound more logical. The 8800GTX will have significantly less of a lead compared to these though?

It'll be interesting no matter what.

By the way the GT thing that i've read is from a danish hardware website, wasn't really a trusthworthy source though.

Is this going to be more expensive the current, perfectly fine 8800GTS already out their?

I doubt it, and that would be really bad!
It's a 65nm process i think, which would make it more economical to produce, and therefore it should be cheaper than the current GTS or same price.

I don't like the idea of calling it an 8800GTS. It's just going to make things confusing for consumers. nVIDIA's naming scheme hasn't made much sense overall since Geforce 6 Series (and even then the lower end 6800s got confusing with GE, XT, LE etc)

Well of course if they just release it, without saying anything and just letting them replace the current GTS cards and have the same price, a lot of people will be very lucky :)

They probally wont launch it. Its just a test card just in case ATI's new 2950pro out performs it.
Also it will be very hard to place a card with its performance due to nvidia naming scheme.

I thought the point is the new 8800 GT is going to be so close to a 8800 GTS and cheaper that nobody will be buying the GTS anymore.

If they do this then it will still mean the 8800 GTS card will sell.

Cheap to do as well as the stream processors are there on the 8800 GTS cards but they are just disabled at the moment AFIK

It will be better so naming system still sticks.

Nope, a 8800GT is a totally different card. See thread about it.

Sure, less streamprocessors, 256-bit memory interface i believe?
Just saying that i read this morning on a danish site that the 112-stream card is the 8800GT, thought it sounded weird as well :)
Can't wait to see how many processors etc. the next-gen cards have though :)

Could be a winner.

Could be if they can get it out with a reasonable price and should overclock better, run cooler and maybe even require less power, name could be an issue but fi they are just replacing the standard versions then it will be fine as long as sellers make it clear which they are selling.

Wouldn't supprise me if we see a 8800GX2 or something based on this.

Could be, and if this comes out it should put the original 640mb GTS out of production, as surely this will be a replacement.

I would agree. If true the 8800 GTS 320Mb and 8800 GTS 640Mb would both disappear.

The new 8800 GT 512Mb will be almost as fast as a 8800 GTS (both 320Mb and 640Mb versions) and around the same price as the 8800 GTS 320Mb with none of the memory problems of the 8800 GTS 320Mb so why pay the extra money anymore to get the 640Mb 8800 GTS? => RIP 8800 GTS

So it makes sense to up the stream processors and raise the gap again and relaunch the GTS. Whether it will stay at the same price I doubt it. More stream processors = closer GTX performance = charge more money cause where is the competition?

If this does come out then it will finally kill the arguement over which is faster: 2900 XT or 8800 GTS 640Mb......................well maybe not ;)

Brilliant... revise the 8800, unlock pipes that already there, and charge more for a product that actually costs you less to make...quality marketting :D
