New 6800 Problems :(

I just bought myself a new ASUS N6800/TD/512M Geforce 6800 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X TVO DVI VGA to replace my 4200 256mb RAM AGP because I believed the 4200 had borked...however I'm still getting the same problems to some degree...

AoE3 although runs hell of a lot smoother still occasionaly flashs and leaves streaks of textures...

However the biggest problem is in CS:S...on the 4200 the game would load and then freeze with white blocks everywhere...the 4800 has shown some improvement, I can play a round before this happens:

I have the 91.31 Forceware drivers installed, no overclocking. System specs are as follows:

AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+ 2.01 Ghz
1.00 GB of RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 2

I have read the sticky on 4800s but I'm afriad to flash the bios incase I bork it completley...need some reassurance and clarification before I do that...

I'm tempted to believe that the AoE3 problem is due to my screen...however I don't think the CS:S one can be!?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Extra info on card

im assuming you mean 6800 not 4800

first thing id check is temperatures (i doubt it is that but worth checking). All 6800's have them i think, right click your desktop > Nvidia Display > Your monitor > temperature settings. Id also just try taking the side of your case off, and blow a desk fan on it, sounds cheap but it should improve cooling a little bit then we can eliminate that.

have you tried any other games?

you could download the newest ati tool beta, as that works with nvidia cards, and just do a scan for artifacts, see what happens.

It's running at 66C on desktop and reaching a peak of 77C when running CS:S

Intresting though, was playing a different map to dust and I had no problems, yet when I changed to dust2 the graphic problem above reapperared...wondering if the new lighting thing they put in HL2 is causing problems...gonna go try turning it off now.

Ok so i've just played a full game of dust 2 with the bloom and lighting effects turned off without a problem...leading me to conclude that bloom effects etc. are causing my graphics problems...

why is this? Can this be due to a dodgy moniter?

might be a driver prob, the newer nv drivers are mostly optimised for the 7 series cards i've found, my aopen 6800gt loves the 77.77 drivers and every game i've thrown at them work perfectly. so maybe try some of the older drivers? then if the same error keeps happening it's probably a faulty card?

uninstal drivers, reboot safe mode, run "driver cleaner 3" remove nvidia drivers, reboot and install different drivers, easy peasy. :)
