i have a 19inch dvi veiwsonic 3ms and all the other gear like mouse and 5.1 sound gear,

just need the guts... like RAM, CPU, MOBO, SOUND CARD

im a big gamer, play at 1280 X 1024

small overclock, dont have the money to waste if it goes wrong with a nice CPU, i would prefer an X2 and small overclock ( i already had my fun overclocking my 3.2ghz p4 (478) to 4.14ghz)

small overclocking machine using bits you specced....

£75 under budget... no point getting better RAM or CPU really. lot more money for little extra.

PSU would handle SLI as well and you should be good for putting some money towards SLI or your next graphics card.

i am stumped to wether its worth the extra £90ish to just get a L2 cache of 1024... is it really worth it? will i notice a difference gaming if i spent the extra? if my build has 2gb geil value and 1 7800GTX would the 4400+ make things a lot better or just marginly?

4200+
Price: £219.95 (£258.44 Including VAT at 17.5%)

4400+
Price: £284.95 (£334.82 Including VAT at 17.5%)

thanks, its always good to ask you experts

apparently the extra cache is worth roughly 100mhz. ie the 4200 would need to run 100mhz quicker to be on a par with the 4400. for how much the geil is cheaper i'd still go for the Gskill as its low latency. :)

More like 200MHz Hence the naming 4200+ & 4400+.

But the extra cahce helps more if you are multitasking & using 3D programs.

Personally i would go for the 4400+, as i use my pc for more than just games.

Check the advice of that CPU thread you made! :) Get a dual core for the budget you're playing with. You can clock the 4400+ beyond 2.2GHz, 2 seems better than one at the time of this purchase.

With that Ultra-D mobo, there can only be one choice: Opty 170 + Overclock! :D

Yes, get that Opteron. Stable and I'm sure you won't need too much experience with AMD to overclock this.

............... Yes... but the for your budget, you're more likely to be happy with an Opteron 170 than a single core San Diego 4000+. Believe me on this one. You'll be able to exceed the clock speeds of that chip with this server chip.

so i get the drift that its a server chipset of the san diego 4000+ just lower clock speed ( which i will overclock higher) and just twice the cores (2X cache too)

To clear your post up, the Opteron's are server chips with 1MB cache.

Also looking at that benchmark is not a good way of judging the capability or speed of a CPU. That's a game which clearly doesn't utilise dual core CPU's - if it did the SD 4000 would come lower in the list. To Clarify essenitally a dual core Opty is a handpicked X2 4400+ (which is a pair of Sad Diego cores in a single CPU ).
