New 7950 Installation - Driver Issue

I've tried a download from ATI directly and also from Sapphire but both drivers fail during installation with "could not install GFX driver" in the log file, no further information

Eventually Windows 7 popped up and asked me if I wanted to re-run the installation with recommended settings, this completed the installation but after a reboot all I see is "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter"

If I right click and update driver windows tells me that it is already using the most up to date driver

any clues?

Nope. But is this a known thing I am supposed to do or you just suggesting stuff? Having Nvidia drivers installed shouldnt stop ATI drivers from even installing? CCC itself failed to install until I did the Windows 7 "recommended settings"

It is always recommended when switching from nvidia to amd or vice versa, to completely remove all previous drivers to stop any conflicts.
Try removing all graphics drivers and then re-install your amd drivers.

ok cool will give it a go when I get home, im too scared to leave my PC running all day at home so I can access it via logmein xD

(water)

Isn't there only 2 sets of drivers that currently work with the 79xx series? Should be some on a CD with the card and another set they rushed out as the cards aren't covered by the unified drivers yet?

I've tried all these suggestions, still get a standard vga adapter. Catalyst control center wont open due to "There are currently no settings that can be configured"

I haven't had an Ati card for a while but I seem to recall that CCC used to require the .net framework, any chance that is still a requirement and you don't have the correct version installed?

if youve got kaspersky internet protection might be worth turning it off whilst you install drivers then turn it back on see if that works

fixed it, had to click update driver on the standard VGA card, manually extract the exe file and browse to the non-wdm folder and manually select the ini file

weird
