New 8800 GTS - few questions

Actually looking through the release notes for the latest driver sets released today I found

GeForce 8800 GTX: NVIDIA Control Panel ʺResize HDTV Desktopʺ
(overscan compensation) sliders do not maintain their settings.
[289632]
This issue is fixed with an NVIDIA‐provided workaround to enable overscan
compensation and allow the Resize HDTV Desktop sliders to work properly.
See NVIDIA Knowledgebase Article #2064 for instructions.
• GeForce 8800 GTX: 1680x1050 resolution is not available when using
the Dell 3007WFP monitor. [284181]
• GeForce 8800 GTX/GTS: Flat‐panel scaling doesnʹt work with widescreen
monitors. [309707]

I know it mentions GTX specifically but it looks like theres a few kinks with Dell WS TFTs and 8800s that need to be ironed out .

EDIT just noted they are the same ones you have tried - have been around for a couple of weeks but only just posted today on NV site as WHQL :o

Yeah that worked, got fixed aspect ratio working now :)

Still annoyed abut the resolutions though, you don't want to buy the latest and greatest video card (the 8800 series) only to find you have to use VGA to get a proper list of resolutions  It's gonna matter when Crysis/Bioshock/UT3 arrive. Hopefully it's just a bug that gets fixed.

I wonder if anyone with a 1680*1050 screen can use 1280*800 on any nvidia drivers via DVI?

Have you ticked the "Allow modes not exposed by the display" box under "Manage Custom Resolutions" and then tried to create a custom resolution for 1200x800?

Yeah tried that, just says it can't add the custom resolution and it you try the 'test' it fails to set the mode. I might give powerstrip a try tomorrow, should be able to make custom resolutions with that.

I've also noticed 1280*960, 1280*800, and 1280*768 are all missing from my 17" Samsung TFT as well, so it's not just a Dell issue. Oh well it's no big deal for now and I'm sure it'll get fixed.

Ok, solved the problem, just had to experiment with the timing options when adding modes. If left on auto it would fail, but on GTF timing the test suceeds and the modes can be added and they work.

Yipeee! :p

Cheers for the help lads
