Greetings,

Over the past couple of months I have been building my new gaming machine.

Today I recieved the final part, a "BFG 8800GT OC 512MB".
I have put the new card into my machine, which has been working fine for weeks, and the monitor doesnt come out of standby when I power up the machine.

I have tested the card in another machine and it is working fine. When I put my old card in my PC (BFG 7800GT OC 256MB), it works fine.

I have also tried two different monitors, and been able to rule out the possibility of my monitor being dodgy.
I have tried both new and old BIOS versions, this didnt make a difference.

My full spec's are:
ASUS P5N-E SLI
2GB OCZ DDR2 PC 6400
Hiper Type-R 580w
BFG 8800GT OC 512MB
Intel Core 2 Duo Q6600

Any idea's would be truly appreciated

I have checked the power connections.
I have tried both the single PCI-E port on the PSU, and the Molex --> PCI-E converter which came with the card.

I have done some reading around, and seen it mentioned in a few places of different chipsets not supporting "GEN 2" graphics cards.
Does anyone know if my motherboard supports them? I did some looking but couldnt find anything.

And if not, can anyone recommend a decent motherboard that will definitely support this card, and the rest of my components listed in the first post?

Thanks,

You should be ok with that mobo. The Gen2 issue affects boards that use PCI-e v1.0 slots such as the 775 Asrock Dual Vsta and older boards. It could be your power supply that is the problem. The Hiper 580w can only output a maximum of 360w on the 12v rails and they really are not very good either.

Hope you get it sorted m8, I had the same problem with an EPOX board about 5 years ago, card didn't work in it but worked in everything else :/

three words:

hipers go bang

but it would seem that you have having a power issue

I have tried the power supply from my brothers pc which powered the card just fine in his set up, and it wouldn't boot in mine. So al that could be the problem as far as I can see is the motherboard.

My 8800GT won't boot either!

Bought a PBell Extreme 2711 a couple of months ago. Stock 8500GT card is rubbish so I fitted a 8800GT and no boot, not even a POST. Researched on MVKTechnet etc to learn of gen 1-v-gen 2 and Via chipset problems. Bottom line is I'm going to change the mobo, and forgo warranty, to get the 8800GT working. Which mobo should I go for? I've already fitted a 600w OCZ psu with pci supply. Stock Q6600 and DDR2. I'm not too concerned with o'clocking ATM, just want a stable reasonably priced mobo to use this card on.
Thanks,
Mike

my hiper 580W is fine with my system overclocked aswell don't gret me wrong the type r's have a bad rep but mines working fine.
