Hi guys,

Just bought a new system, taken me a while to setup (Waiting for parts) and finally got it up and running. Noticing my temp is quite high than expected for a gfx card.

Ran nvidia Control Panel - Monitor View

CPU - 58
System - 44
GPU - 78

While ingame, the GPU will hit 80ish with idling around 70-80 but the game will freeze for 2-5 secs, then carry on. When I'm back at desktop it will continue, but even if I left my system in desktop from startup, the system will still freeze.

Is there a problem with my gfx or is it a heat issue with the case?

Could be a power supply issue? I seem to remember these are hot-running chips so I wouldn't yet be bricking it about the temperature.

Everything is new, I haven't overclocked cpu and got a new psu.

Enermax Infiniti 720W EIN720AWT ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU.

My temp has gone down to 69 now but still doing it.

my 8800GTX is BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail.

I've taken the side of the case off to help but I think cos it's inside my cupboard, which could be another prob with the heat not escaping that well.

What about windows xp? could my o/s be another prob?

The cursor keeps stopping, and when the comp gets back after your typing for a while... it'll catch up.

inside a cupboard?? just put it in a oven and have done with it :)

it will be just circulating warm air all the time:(

Sorry, but lol, just lol!

Well, in the past its been okay... never experienced any problems.

I should know better really... another problem came up now, both keyboard and mice not responding in windows, won't work at all... even if i use it in another port, no response!

Yes in the days of PC that were nearly all passive and PSU cooled them (ATX spec).

Todays high power CPU/GPU's need some airflow and recirculating hot air is bad and even if its sucking in cool air from the front, the hot air cant escape well enough causing backpressure.

I had 1 n00b customer (family member) cook there PSU this way on a 1 year old build I made them.

They had it back under the table in the typical type PC shelf that just so happened to have the support crossmember right in line with the PSU exhaust. lol.

Their original PC died of heat over a long persiod of time (years) a mix of no airflow and the fact inside was like a hoover bag that burst, every single fan inc Mobo one was sieged as grease had dried out with heat+dust.

So story is, some n00bs dont learn by past mistakes, then they did the same with the 2nd PC I made them (more powerful/hotter), its not cooked yet but I will have nothing to do with any of their PC ever again.

Another n00b family customer has put the new PC I build last year back down very near the carpet, he wonders why the front Filter is choked with dust, I have told him many times to get it cleaned every 2 weeks ideally (monthly at worst) and get it back up on the table top where I put it and it will stay cleaner.
