My Epson R300 has run its course. Spent too much time in bad storage while I was in between houses, etc.

I am looking at replacing it with a newer model, but also A4, and I am not too convinced by pigment based inks unless something has changed radically since the R800. I often spend months without printing, and then suddenly need to print a lot. Clogged nozzles are a big issue for me.

What would be the equivalent nowadays? Should I consider other brands like Canon or HP?

In my new house I have ethernet cabling and no space for a printer where my PC is, so it would be great if ethernet or WiFi were a realistic option.

I left Epson may years ago for Canon because of crappy nozzles. Have never had a problem with my Canon. Runs first time every time when I switch it on

Same. My Canon was bought back in 2006 and it still prints like new every time, even after 6 months of non-use.

I have a PIXMA iP4200

Thanks for your replies.

I almost ordered an Epson Stylus Photo PX730WD, but both from the replies I am getting and from my own issues with my aging Epson R300, I am swayed towards buying a Canon printer if indeed it's going to give me less nozzle related trouble.

From the new models the Canon PIXMA MG6350 looks like the right printer for me. Availability is an issue for now though, so I guess the question is how much better than a slightly older model (Canon Pixma MG6250) is it to be worth waiting for. Hmmm.

I've totally given up on printing photos at home, the printers just don't last and the ink ends up costing a fortune and you never get results like when it's new after a few months/years no matter what you do.

I ended up getting a cheap colour laser printer, a Samsung CLP-320, which is far superier. Not only can it print photo quality if needed on the odd occasion, but it works first time, every time. No head cleaning, no replacing ink, no fuss, perfect. Only down side is the toner is expensive, but it can be refilled easily enough with no reduction in quality.

Any photos and I'll get them printed online in future - or in boots/asda/whatever if needed same day!

Ive got an iP4200, stuck to canon only inks, no 3rd party carts & its still going strong.
I've got an iP4000 which is several years old ... tried non-canon inks a few years ago .... colour wasn't as good as Canon so switched back to canon for colour and compatible for black ... then print head clogged terminally. Had to get a new print head (slightly cheaper than a new printer especially as I'd just bought some new ink!) and now only use canon ink and no problems since. Still going strong now and no need to replace it ... though I am tempted by a colour laser!

I fancy the Pro 1, I've got so many Family portaits to do in the next few weeks, Fed up of waiting for 3rd Party companys to send me the smaller prints, I don't mind waiting 7 working days for larger prints but A3 and smaller ... I want them to give to the client right away.
