Build is great, wide factor gives wonderful perspective to work with (very film like for me)
Who ever told me (on another forum) the EFs build is like the kit lens needs to be shot)
Very much feels a brother to the 17 - 40 L

Optical quality is incredible for a zoom.

Nice lens - Optically it's superb

In terms of build quality though it's quite a way off the 17-40L - It doesn't have weather sealing, the focus ring is tiny and plastic and the casing isn't up to the standard of the 17-40.
It's of the same generation as the EF-S 17-85 IS and you certainly can't compare that to the build of the 24-70L

I know what you mean, I meant it to come across as someone who has used a 17 - 40 for almost 2 years its doesn't feel a set back. Your right though, The rings are the difference makers.
