Hi

My dad has been after a cheap car to get him to work and back. His only real requirement is SPACE! being a long distance lorry driver, he often has a lot of stuff to bring home and take back to work again. Speed doesnt matter, neither does fuel economy as hes going to be doing 100 miles a month max for work.

I managed to pick this up off the Volvo owners club.

Apart from the dint in the second picture, and a bit of dentage to the back passenger door, its in very good shape. Paintwork is very shiney, with no rust AT ALL. Interior is all in good shape. All the gauges work / electrics work (gauges being a common non working item on old volvo's, and also the headlining is good - another weak point). its the 2 litre B200E 4 cylinder engine, which is a bit slow on take off, but good once rolling and like my 2.3, completly bulletproof!

Folder full of reciepts, timing belt recently done, new starter motor, 6 months tax, MOT till 27 Feb 07.

Got it for £300

Pretty pleased with that. Doesnt really matter about the dints and odd bash in it. Its 16 years old - its going to have a few in, and probably a few more after the car has sat in the yard getting pelted by various size rocks off other lorries.

Think i did fairly well for the money. Its my dads birthday present!

RWD? My mate has one to take his drum kit/band around the country, and I drove it to Leeds Fest this year. Great fun on the mud track on the way in :D

It'd recently rained and the track was just pure gloop. You'll be surprised how well it fishtails and spins in those conditions despite the distinct lack of power :p

Heated seats as well? They're my fave feature in a sub-500 quid wagon :)

I love my mate's volvo. We can literally just do whatever we like to it. Sitting on the roof in a traffic jam on a sunny day is fun :) All the drivers of the pristine condition cars stuck with us were pretty jealous :p

I'm looking for a LHD Volvo estate, just wondering if they're common over here.

I think there was an LHD 940 on the bay a few weeks back. Turbobricks.com is a USA based volvo site but unless your going to import, i doubt you'll find many LHD ones over here.

i took a similar one down to Rome last year over a 1600mile banger rally - cost £100 and was boaringly relyable - some friends took annother one (painted with zebra stripes) took one to naples with us this year - and again it was amazingly relyable (apart from getting the starter motor stuck on on the motorway and stripping all its cogs, thus having to push start it all the time :D)

all in all great cars, and great fun to mess around with - bonnet running them while moving is interesting..... doing it in a underground car park results in a sore head!

A guy at work had one of these untill recently. It had nearly 300,000 miles on it and refused to die.

haha yeah they are superb fun for banger rallies :D

Cool present :) looks in damn good condition for the price you paid, and to be honest anything at that price that runs is a bargain!

you'd be surprised what you can get for that kinda money or less if you don't mind it being a little rough around the edges and risking it costing a bomb to get through the next mot - but for that kinda money you can just bin it and buy annother next year :D

Well apart from the dentage around the back passenger door which could be repaired for £100 odd, its fine.

I paid £100 for my 2.3GLE 740 estate and it flew through the MOT. I dont know of many old volvo's that fail too many MOT's. They just seem to keep going :D

I was tempted to buy this one as its just been serviced and had 6 months tax put on it, thats gotta be worth £100 in its-self.

i wouldn't bother tbh - it will get dents in its life, unless its going to fail an MOT on it just leave it, lets you not worry about it getting banged up any other time :)
