Hi all

I need a little help, I’m currently with O2 and use the supplied Thompson router but this turns off once in a while and loses connection also it get very hot when using for downloading and gaming. I was wondering if upgrading would help and If so what router would you recommend, I need an ADSL2 router that’s good for games and torrent with wireless.

Also would it be hard to setup with O2 broadband?

Thanks a lot for any help

The supplied O2 router is pretty useless. You can't go wrong with either a Netgear DG834GT or DG834N, both are recommended for O2/Be.

I just ditched my netgear because of issues with PS3 download speeds and the fact I can't get it to support more than one 360 at a time. Other than that it's a great bit of hardware (more so if you upgrade to one of the custom firmwares).

I switched to a dlink 2640b by the way and it works perfectly with O2.

Another option I would suggest looking at is the WAG54Gs or WAG200g from linksys.

The custom firmware isn't as flexible with the ADSL ones as it is with the cable ones but you could get a WRT54GL and a separate ADSL modem that presents on ethernet if you so wished (or indeed use your existing router with the IP of the WRT set as DMZ)

More boxes and cables etc. but another good options is a stand alone ADSL2 modem such as the Linksys AM200 and then use a modem such as the Linksys WRT54GL with Tomato firmware installed. Lots of features and a very good router for around £70 all in.

Won't do the latest 802.11n wireless but if thats not a bother then I'd seriously consider it as an alternative.

I currently use a DG834N on Be* fairly pleased with it copes well with gaming and torrents (can max out my connection at 2.2Mb/sec easily with no worries), stick the DGTeam firmware on it though as the netgear stuff is pretty poor compared to that.

Seconded, Separate Modem + Linux based WRT will give you a lot more functionality for the future.

Thank you all for you're help. I got the Netgear DGN2000 in the end.

Also, special thanks for Yerman for the link to the set up guide. I wouldn't have been able to set up the internet without it. :)

Would the DGTEAM firmware work on a DG834G .V2 router do you know?

Thanks
