New-age Celica vs RX8

I have a celica and also considered an RX8 at the time of purchasing it. Went for the celica due to lower running costs. I like both cars and had i wanted to spend a little more probably would have gone for the RX8. Very happy with the celica and cant fault its reliability.

There was a rather nice Exige S1 at the MPH show today, payed 9K for a K20 engine swap, i wonder, why do that, when the toyota engine is better.

And NA K20 or an SC K20?

The Exige S2 is SC 2zz as it is, so I would hope it was an SC K20 ... even then it is still a waste as in SC form the 2zz can make just as much power as the SC K20

The S1 came with the Rover engine anyway

Well if he's like me or you and pays someone to do the work then he's probably well off and did it because he can and wanted something different to the others, he also probably prefers the K20 out of personal preference

It could have been possible that he is a mechanic, has access to everything he needs for fabrication work and is able to do it in his spare time as a project, that would be another reason why someone would carry out such a swap

Just suggesting one car out of thousands is weak, theres to many possible reasons why he did it, i'm sure its an epic car too but it proves nothing, i've seen K20's in Saxos

For the record if you want the reasons why I went for it over the K20 (not the car and other costs just purely the engine) I think it sounds better, the K20 is silent the 2ZZ makes some nice intake and exhaust noises but mostly because of the noticable kick that makes me giggle like a little girl, the K20 didnt have that and some would argue that its better to have no kick however I prefer it, on the K20 it revved cleanly to the redline with no noticable feel in performance difference on cam where as the 2ZZ revs normally to 6K then goes bonkers. I just find it more entertaining for the same reasons I found the older B series entertaining

Slightly biased I know but hey

Go for the 190 for sure, and stick a charger in it. Sorted. Mines a TRD model but all in all its pretty much the same engine as a 190. Apart from the charger

Its fun. I was stuck between the exact same choice and was put off mainly by the rx8's ****le engine flooding on small journeys, which when you live less than 2 miles from work, could become an expensive problem

Also, the rx8 road tax is steep on the later reg models. At least I think it is. Worth checking

I thought you were hillariously suggesting a 350z was better than an s2000... I'd risk saying its the worst of the 4 (RX8, S2000, Celica 190)

Sadly I don't have the S2000 anymore, boring old focus !

I know nothing about the 350z, so it was a genuine question whether it was better as they have more power, faster to 60s and command a higher premium than both the rx8 and Celica?

How did I miss that thread first time?! Very nice motor. My limited knowledge of Celicas doesn't extend past 140s/190s, so didn't know about the higher TRD specs.

Thanks DB_SamX

I noticed your pics from the celica club meeting that you posted. Loved the white one you got

Thats the color I wanted originally, but was waiting too long for one to appear and this popped up. So I got it. Still considering a repaint to be honest. But there always seems to be something much more interesting and fun to do with a couple of grand, rather than spending it on paint : )

*not that I ever have anywhere near a couple of grand to throw around : (
