new AGP gfx card possibly

i've been doing some 3-D work at uni and my pc is beginning to struggle, spec:

intel 2.8ghz northwood at stock (have oced it in the past to around 3.2ghz)
1gb ram
MSI 5700le 128mb AGP gfx card

the mac's at uni can't cope with what i'm modelling would it be worth up grading my current graphics to something like

or is it the pc as a whole holding back the software.

Might be worth mentioning what software you are using, as the reason it is slow may possibly not be down to your GPU, but rather a CPU/RAM issue.

yeah 3d rendering it wholey cpu intensive. looks like you need to upgrade your cpu, which means a new computer effectively

i'm using Lightwave v9.3. could be the CPU i suppose i don't realy know the deamnds of a 3-d program.

i've ordered it now anyway cos i've got to have it finished by next week would really like a whole new pc but that is going to have to wait until i finsh uni this summer, being a student i barely have the money for the gfx card i've ordered lol.

at worst it'll improve my gaming

hummm you'd be better off with a Worstation FireGL/Quadro especially for lightwave, try second hand

you will see no performance increase with that purchase in regards to 3d rendering. its not like games, its different, the difference is, games = real time 3d , 3d rendering = offline. { non real time }.

im surprised you went and purchased it anyway , after coming on here for advice and people giving it to you, but you chose to ignore it.
