I have a few Airport Expresses in my house, I use them for a combination of streaming audio, but also for extension of my wireless network.

In the far reaches of the house the wireless has still been abit dodgy, now with the new release of the dual band version I thought it would be great.

So today I got one, and its rocking. I wish it didn't have the cabling, but you cant have everything.

I'm intrigued as to how moving to a dual-band access point solved range based issues, since 5GHz doesn't travel through as much stuff without getting severely attenuated.

Unless it's also got a more powerful 2.4GHz radio.

I am assuming that even thought 5Ghz doesn't have the same sort of range as 2.4Ghz, it is in fact better in a gadget filled house as less things interfere at that frequency.

I had bought the previous version last week and it was ok. They released this one so I returned it for the new one and the performance is much better. Glad I changed it.

How are people using these express routers? I've a ISP modem router the wifi is rubbish. I believe these express don't have modem in them?

Up until now I had my express set to bridge mode and running on 5ghz 802.11n. The wifi on my ISP router is still enabled for my phone which doesn't support the settings on the express. Once I get the new version this week then the wifi on my router will be switched off entirely.

Been using mine for about a year now, only downtime has been during a power cut or when my sister has had a tantrum and pulled the power :p

The guest network is also great for family members and friends coming round

A couple of questions guys...

1) Can I use the new Express with an AE as a Hotspot in my study, something like this:

Airport Extreme >>(cat5) New Express (LAN port I assume?),

2) I have Virgin 100mb, what speeds will I most likely get if the Express is a meter or two away from my upcoming MBP :D

Thanks,

Imran

1) Yes, you need to set it up however over the wireless utility thats on your mac

2) im on 100mb too, all i can say is things feel no faster over wired to wireless

Would be very grateful if you could do a speedtest, network-copy / web and let me know how far the Express is from your computer pretty please :)

I have an old AP by Netgear and I want a new setup for my MBP Retina, don't want to use a Ethernet to TB cable.

Thanks

The express has two ethernet ports so you can go wired if you wish :)

I noticed that there are two ethernet ports on the back; is this so it can connect onwards to another device?
