So Alienware announced some new laptops. At first glance the laptops look quite lack luster. Will be interesting to see some benchmarks and reviews on these. I was planning to upgrade my current laptop once newer laptops (GPU + CPU) upgrades came along.

Whats every ones thoughts on them if anyone has had a look ?

Looking at the max 17"

£2,549:
Overclocked Intel® Core™ i7-4900MQ (8MB Cache, up to 4.0GHz w/ Turbo Boost)
English Windows® 7 Home Premium (64 BIT)

16GB2 Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 780M with 4GB GDDR5
Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader (BD-ROM, DVDRW, CD-RW)
LCD Back Cover (WLAN) Alienware 17
Broadcom 4352 802.11 ac 2x2 and Bluetooth 4.0

4.15 kg.

The 18" doesn't have much details up yet except SLI options. But considering how much spec above costs I imagine the 18" being really expensive.

I think as already mentioned, from what I read the R4's where better for keeping the system cool compared to most other laptops on the market. But if the Clevo's are just as good if not better I will most likely opt for one of those.

I decided to skip the R4 and wait until the new CPU's and GFX cards were out and see what was available. The MSI's are looking pretty damm nice at the moment but I think I will wait for some reviews and/or feedback from this here forum before I make the plunge to a new laptop.

I currently have a Samsung G700A which is still going fairly strong if I'm honest. But I would like something with a bit more grunt to handle some of the newer PC games.

Given the choice I would go back to a desktop, but due to the nature of my work I move between two-three countries where I "setup base" for a while so a gaming laptop is the only way for me.

I wonder why they dropped the Killer wireless NIC. I thought they were supposed to be the preferred choice for gaming on wireless connections.

I have to say though I am sorely tempted by one of the new Alienwares. I have a 10% off coupon, plus Dell are doing a 0% payment plan over 10months. Which well I don't really need I have the money but still always nice to pay over a few months if it isn't costing me anything.

I've only seen one review up on the new Alienware laptops though so I'm still inclined to hold off for a while.
