EDIT: Also the better internet adapter

It's worth it :)
I'm holding out for MSI GT725 or GT727, I missed out on a laptop with rubbish CPU, 17", 8800GTX for £688... for the money I couldn't find anything better.

Im looking at the GT725 as well, its out for pre-order at around 1200 atm, which is bloody good for what you get in that laptop.

I nearly bought a M1730 from auction, but I ran out of bullets, didn't want to spend more then £1300.

Looked at the M17 and checked out some Clevo re-branded ones and I liked the Quads, but again costing too much.

When I normally hear Alienware I don't even even bother looking coz its usually priced around £2-3k for anything decent, I think M17 standard + 1920x1200 + 3870x2 for under just under £1500 is ok, but out of my reach.

I only found a place taking pre-orders, but never heard of them. Any ideas when we can get these? I heard its around Feb, but not 100% sure.
I hope OcUK gets them. I agree it seems a very good buy.

i know i want the alienware, i definitely dont want to buy a dell ever again! and the msi doesnt look that great to me, what i wanted to know is what the best way to spend the £500 upgrade money on on the m17

I have heard early Feb as well, someone asked MSI directly and posted their reply. They also pointed out the place I would imagine you found places taking pre-orders, who I have also never heard of, not sure if its trustworthy so take it at face value really.

How the hell are they fitting 2 x 3870's in a laptop case?! Fair enough, it's huge - but surely not that big :o

And how hot would it run? A quad core CPU, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 2x 256GB SSD, and 2 x 3870's?! Surely it must have it's own in-built AC unit!

The 3870s (and all other dedicated mobile GPUS) are nothing like the desktop parts to look at. They come on MXM modules which are roughly 6-8cm square. The '3870X2' in a laptop is actually two seperate 3870's connected in CF.

They can get away with fitting them into laptop cases by power saving features and also clock speed / feature reduction (thus lowering their power consumption and heat output).

As an example my Advent 6555 has a HD4850 mobility GPU which has the full feature set from the desktop 4850GPU. The clocks however are 500/1700 down from the 625/2000 of the desktop card.
