hi, i've just fitted some new alloys to my 93 civic hatch and i'm not sure what tyre pressure to go to. they are 15" tsw freeze with 195/50/15 yokos on. i've put them all to 35 at the mo. Also, i cant find any information on how tight to squeeze the wheel nuts. they are on 75 at the mo- again cant find any info even tho they are brand new and came with all the usual information. useless really.

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

With regards to the torque of wheel nuts I make sure I am able to undo them with the tools which you keep in the boot incase of a puncture.

It's all very well torq'ing them up correctly but if you cannot undo them if/when you have a flat then you are stuffed.

Tyre pressures will be in your handbook, or on the tyres.
Usually the numbers on the tyres are the max psi the tyre can take.

Have a look at this site: http://www.thetyrepressuremonitor.com/tyrepressures_honda.html

Also, remember to pump them up when they are cold. Ideally get up tomorrow and go stright to the petrol station to pump them up without going anywhere else.

Yeah, the handbooks better, but if you haven't got one, tyres will do.

The pressure in the handbook is pretty meaningless if he's moved away from the standard size.

If you've gone to a lower profile tyre (hence stiffer sidewall) I'd start off 1-2psi lower than what the handbook says and see how you get on.

garage said to me when i had my low pro's fitted to keep the same pressure

i put the same in and it seems fine *shrugs*

A couple of PSI either way isn't going to make any difference in terms of safety. It all about personal preference and how you want the car to feel.

thanks for that all- The handbook only states psi on original tyres and wheel sizes not 15s with lower profile tyres so i cant really go by that. i'm keeping them at 35 for a while and i'll see how it goes- feels really smooth at the moment! With regards to the wheel nut torque i've only done 50 miles in the car since fitting so am going to re-check them tomorrow. good point about me being able to get them off if i need to! hopefully 75 should be satisfactory.

On a completely different subject, i've been told by my mechanic that i'm going to need a new radiator before the summer heat comes. any ideas where to get one cheapish? or should i just let him organise it? (hes a good mechanic and i trust him so it could be worse). The motor is a mint 1993 honda civic esi 1.6 vtec (its got an auto box so its a bit more expensive and complicated apparently).

Many thanks for all your help so far!!!!

Surely size of wheel doesn't matter, 15psi on a 15 inch and 15psi on a different size is the same isn't it?

I remember someone asking this question before and I had no clue how you'd adjust for different alloys and vaguely remember that answer coming up...

The amount of air in the tyres will be less, but the pressure shouldn't change really, maybe a bit for the stiffer tyrewalls, but not by much...

well maybe you're right- the stock figure for the car is 32 psi and i've got these at 35 at the mo. maybe i'll let them down in a coulple of weeks to see which is better. thanks tho. ;)
