New AMD's on the way!

Well, if they are 65nm i will get a 5600 probably

Depends on the price, i suppose these will overclock good too

What do ye have to do to put a new cpu in, just plug old one out and put new one in

or is there somethign else that needs to be done

I know this is all everyone will say to you at the minute, but don't bother. Get a core2duo instead. These chips still won't be as good and will be even poorer value for money against they're intel rivals.

If the cpu is compatible with your motherboard and all then it should be as simple as in and out as you say. If not then you could have to change your mobo, ram, psu and 3dcard aswell.

Well ya i was lookin into core2duo but at the time there were no decent mATX boards.

e6300 is what im looking at atm, will need a new mobo indeed, but thats all i will need.

The Inquirer is a dodgey source of information, I wouldn't have thought AMD would release 90nm chips of that power when they are about to release 65nm chips which'll easily beat the 90s.

Those chips on 90nm will have very high temps, I know my AM2 4600+ at 2.6 has quite high temps as it is.

Can we assume that these are AM2 CPUS only? I would have loved to see some on 939, if I could get a 6000/5600 at an aggresive price I definitely would buy it, and I'm sure that many who just couldn't justify the price of the upgrade from 939 to C2D would also be very interested in the chips.

AMD also wants to speed up the introduction of its new CPUs. The 5400+ and 5600+ won't be top of the line X2 CPUs for long, since AMD is also readying the 5800+ and 6000+.
How about workin on a new decent CPU :o

AMD is just doing what Intel did when AMD was top dog..

Intel just stayed with their old netburst architecture and kept cranking up the frequencies.

Then Intel finally came out with a new architecture and destroyed AMD......so maybe AMD will be on top next.

Certainly doesn't look that way, but who knows.

939 is dead i am afraid. There will be no new cpu's released for that socket.

I still can't see these catching up with C2D. Seems like AMD is getting desperate and hoping that ramping up the clocks will make up the difference. It's a pity really as AMD right up until Intel launched C2D was the one to go with. Swings and roundabouts i suppose. Intel has it's moment now (and for the foreseeable future) but no doubt AMD will take the lead again one day. Just like ATI and Nvidia are always taking turns being at the top.

AMD has this process tapes out months ago, sometimes you just have to follow your raod and hope that your new architectures do the business whence the arrive?

It may seem that Intels C2D is running away with it at the moment but AMD are still selling well in the low and mid range market, they are just getting hit hard in the high and ultimate end.

This is true, and in fact AMD are now selling more units than ever before, thanks to their mid range office tie in deals with HP and Dell.

The high end market only caters for about 5% of the PC market, so those people proclaiming that AMD is dying are very wide of the mark, they are enjoying unprecedented growth, us people in the 'Enthusiast' market, aren't really that important to them...

The poor old inq does get some stick on here (mostly justified to be fair), but this time they are bang on. Look HERE. Bring down the drop down list on 'model number'.
