So the US will invade France in 2014 says the US army? :p

That's going to be bad for the US, all the sudden their citizens will demand basic human rights, like, healthcare :o :)

Typically ridiculous american thinking.

Lucky all those evil french fighers are wearing transmitters so they show up on the controllers computer screen.

Soon the americans wont even be able to fire their weapons without relying on a computer chip to arm the weapon. I'd love to see what they do when someone lets off an emp. I can't imagine any technically competent nation hasn't been working on the technology as a countermeasure.

I certainly can't imagine France being such sitting ducks to the americans. Can you imagine an APC trundling around un noticed, a robotic attack helecopter flying about without alerting the french air force, or just to have artillary laying in wait. Not forgetting that France is a rather major nuclear power as well, it wasn't exactly a covert attack.

I'm sure it will be more like:
"Sir, someone is doing something wrong in france"
"k. nuke. pwnt."

Indeed, what is the purpose of an army when you can simply aim nukes at each other and planes splatter with pinpoint acuracy. The age of the trench warefare is over.

Indeed... with aerial/naval bombing, a war can be won in days... cf. Iraq x2.

However, you need a good land force to folllow this up... cf. Iraq.... or not as the case may be.

maybe, be soldiers are very much needed. You cant do much other than destroy key targets. You cant secure land, occupy or disarm a country just with air strikes.

And you cant actually use nuclear bombs.

Donald Rumsfeld would have loved that :p

Sheepish soldier: "Sir - are we going to need more men?"
Sergent: "Not today kid".

If they can get that anti-RPG system working I wouldn't mind buying that for the British army.

And miracolusly 400 french nukes would appear over all the major US cities... ;)

I can only assume the people in the film are fighting Iraki style enemy and using normandy as an area because of what has happened there. :p

A lot of that stuff is already being used by the US Army. Blue Force Tracker, UAVs, UGVs, reactive armour. The issue is combining it into one big system so that troops get 'near real-time' intel.

which will be achieved in 2 stages. they ahve a half system body suit , then a full system body suit a few years later. I just cant find the link at the moment. I posted about it before on these fine forums, but can't find that thread either, must have been deleted.

I didnt know about the suit but I know that there are companies out there who develop some awesome technology. I know an ex-SF operator (cracked his skull on a night HALO jump) who used to do R&D for a lot of companies and their whole objective really was to take the 'toys' and try and break them. Some of the stuff out there is incredible.

it certainly is. i'm trying to find it on google, but i just cant find them. the first suit is army camouflage with built in wifi, hud ect. the 2nd phase suit is black, full face helmet and takes it to the next level with heating/cooking system, more advanced computing ect. gun sights are also link to hud for firing blind.

I think I saw a brief story about it on the Discovery channel or something. I hope they adapt it though because I would hate to go into combat wearing a full face helmet. The firing blind thing will be awesome but I heard they are having a lot of problems getting the weight of the system down to anything remotely bearable.

I was reading an article in the Army Times about a new H&K rifle that is superior in almost every way to the M16 but the only people who are getting it are SF operators and not regular troops. Army leadership was saying the cost of re-equiping everyone with the new rifle is too pricey for the relativly little increase in effectiveness. In that article it was taking about the rife the army is trying to develope that can blind fire and do a bunch of other cool stuff. But with the batteries, and optics etc the weight is like 4 times as much as a fully loaded M16

The articles I've seen the first version should be going live in the next 5 or so years. the full face helmet shouldn't be a problem as the suit has a aircon/heating to keep you at peak temperature. they hope to use a fuel cell to power this one that runs on alcohol, which should be easily sourced, in times of need.

I've been googling for ages now and I just can't find it. It really is awesome.

There also devolving exoskeletons and have had some massive success, but again it's powering them, that is the problem.

Instead of all that, just wack a couple of them MetalStorm Redback guns on a helicopter or some of them 'boxs' and just blast the hell out of the target.

Jobs a good 'en. :D

You know you want to see one of these on the next UK helicopter.

Then send in one of these to clean up the area.
