Ok so I have 2 monitors.

22 inch 1600x1050

40 Inch 1080p

I used to have desktop running on both screens and Id game at 1080p on the 40 inch and just swicth the 22 off.

However, now I have new drivers and win7 not xp (maybe this is porblem?)

I cannot have both monsitors on dual display and 1080p...Basically it only allows me the resolution highest possible on BOTH displays which is off course 1600x1050.

So, if I have dupliacte image on both screens it auto downgrades the max resolution I can select in games to 1600x1050.

So, I can only get roudn this by setting 40 inch to monitor 1 and 22 to monitor 2. But in doing so I can only display desktop on the 40 inch... I prefer to browse the web etc on 22 inch so this is annoying.

Before with xp and old catalys control centre I coudl have destop on 1600x1050 on both dispalys at same time and also select resolution up to 1080p when gaming.

Why not now? New Catalyst contorl center or win7?

And how can I solve this problem?

Cheers

Have you selected 'Extend My Desktop' to the 22'' monitor in Control Panel settings. You should have no problem running 2 monitors with different resolutions and when gaming the other monitor should still be available to show monitoring tools, your steam friends list or vent window so you can see who is on, etc.

yes it extends but that is no good. I dont want an extended dispaly I want identiacl.

Anyway searching google it seems this is a win 7 issue not ATI.

It seems for some reason the Diplay portpeitres of win7 coampred to win xp are rubbish. They dont allow you to duplaicte 2 dispalys and have indiviaul resoluiton choices for appliacations.

You get knocked down to the resolution on the lowest monitor if you choose to duplicate

Well I guess there is no way around this?

If not I will need to buy new 1080p monitor which I was gonna do anyway.

Should I go for 3d or not 23 or 24 inch? LED or LCD?

My main use is gaming, fps gaming, BF3 mainly, most other games I play on 40" tv...this monitor will be for study, browsign and hardcore competitive fps gaming.

I didn't think this was possible as it contradicts the notion of duplicate displays if they can run at different resolutions and thus are then not duplicate? I was pretty sure that the only way you could do this was if the lower resolution monitor managed to downscale a higher resolution feed.

Personally I'd not spend the money on 3D especially with an ATI card. 23" or 24" which ever fits the budget, bigger is always better as they say though! Strictly speaking LED is not a panel type but rather a lighting method for monitors. So you can get LCD monitors that either have LED back lighting or cold cathode back lighting. Good LED back lighting is better than cold cathodes so if you can afford it, I'd get it. There are a variety of types of LCD panels, most common types are TFT, IPS. Again if budget allows IPS is better than TFT if you're serious about accuracy and image quality. But for most TFT panels will suffice.
