I have purchased an Audient id4 MK2 for use with my headphones and speakers connected to my pc, I use my DT990' s for gaming connected to one of the front headphone aux ports and it sounds great.

I currently have a set of cheap Logitech 2.0 pc speakers and I'm looking to upgrade. Max budget is around £200. I'm in quite a small room and these will be sat on a desk in front of me. On the back of the ID4, there are two aux ports for the left and right channel audio out, so when connected with my Logitech speakers I only get output from one channel as I only have one 3.5mm audio jack. I'm also thinking if I get a set of 2.0 bookshelf speakers I'll need active/powered as I'm not sure the amp built into ID4 is quite enough.

So can some recommend a set of 2.0 active speakers that I can connect using both outputs please?

You should be able to use a cable which takes both the left and right output and combines them into a stereo 3.5mm jack. Like this: Dual TS to 3.5 audio cable - Amazon or similar which for a few quid will get you stereo meantime.

The outputs of the ID4 will be line outs and not able to power speakers as you suspected.

Whilst I have a good ear for sound, I’m no audiophile so cant recommend what would sound best. I think in a small room, I’d probably look at initially small studio monitor speakers. Presonus regularly get mentioned and seem to have pairs that come in under 200.

I had a quick google on the ID4, that product looks like it's for creators to record. Does the ID4 work also as a DAC? I presume the twin headphone out ports are for monitoring what your recording at that time?

Over 2.0 speakers, it depends on what your after, is it just general use such as music / games, or do you want more accurate monitor speakers for content creation. If it's the later you should also budget desk stands and isolation foam.

Thanks, I did find this out yesterday by calling Audient. I decided to buy some monitor speakers Instead of going down the splitter route.

Yes, it does work as a DAC and a pretty damn good one too. I primerily use the headphones for gaming with a bit of music with the speakers mainly for listening to music with a bit of SP gaming.

In the end I decided to buy some active monitor speakers. I went with a pair of Presonus Eris E5's. I am absolutely blown away. I cannot believe the difference in quality. I haven't played around with the presets yet, amazing!

Yes they will be quite good monitors.

People spent money on the Creative / Logitech speaker setups, however for not to much more money, they could have entry level pro speakers like your Presonus that will totally out perform what their use to.

Edit, just read these Presonus have a class A/B amp, that's quite rare at the budget end! The class A/B amps give more warm sound over class D.

Fully agree, I can't believe I've been missing out all these years. A massive upgrade for me.
