So thinking about time to replace the Lexicon MC-8 V2 with a updated pre-amp, HDMI switching, with HD decoding, room correction etc

The Marantz AV7703 is now £1300 so not too bad. Power amplifiers are ATI 2003, ATI 2004 (3+4 channels)

Anyone got these pre-amps?

The AV7704 is also out, but it's just a updated model and a fair bit more expensive.

I'm not a fan of Marantz or anything else that runs Audyssey.

Sadly processors tend to be over priced, I don't know why it's cheaper to buy an integrated, it just is.

I've had many different AV receivers over the years, I did also try a Yamaha pre but it was rubbish compared to my Anthem. I run my MRX 720 into power amps. They are great power amps you have, do them justice with something better in front of them.

Can't justify thousands on a av pre-amp. Anthem have a AVM60 but that's £3800. No freaking way spending that much. Didn't mind spending fair chunk on power amps as they last 20 years and don't go out of date.

Just a suggestion, why not buy a higher end AV receiver & just use it as a pre-amp, that way you may reach out to a bigger market when it comes to selling it on.

That's why I meant use the MRX 520 or 720. There's a 720 for sale on AVF.

Why is AVF pathetic?

The used one on there is £2k and easily the best amp you will find for under £3k.

There’s also an older MRX 510 for reasonable money on there.

I use an Anthem 720 as a pre amp, I demo'd a lot of others I don't think you will be able to beat it without spending significantly more money. No point in having good power amps and speakers and then skimping on the processor/pre-amp.

Exactly my findings too. I know it’s not balanced out, my amps are also a fully balanced design, I use RCA to XLR cables and it sounds great, it would only be a problem if you had long cable runs from the pre to the power amps.
