Hi there guys I'm looking to buy Denon AVRX2300W for 299.99 but I'm not sure if it's a good receiver and if it's an overkill for what I have. At the moment I have Audio monitors BX2 for front, BX1 for rear and
SX120 subwoofer. My previous receiver was Yamaha RX-V630, which I got from car boot sale almost 5 years ago for 50 pounds. The receiver just started to make a hissing noise that can be heard 3m away from the speakers, I checked with my friend amp and speakers were silent so time to replace.

Any advice will be appreciated. If there are any less or more expensive option please feel free to recommend them. However, my budget is around 300 pounds and I don't want to go crazy. I would like the receiver to last as long as possible and to be reliable for my use roughly 3-4 hours per week at moderate listening levels.
Thank you,
Sam

I'm unable to get hold of Denon anymore but I can get Yamaha RXV581 for 250 any views on this receiver compare to Denon, features, build quality, reliability, possible issues etc? I'm not really into hifi thing as all my staff I got second hand really cheap and like new condition, so advice will be appreciated.

Yamaha reliability is better. But Yamaha power is down compared to Denon. Yamaha has it's own EQ system which can be tweaked a bit, not sure what Denon has- Audyssey? That can't be tweaked.

The yamaha is a good amp for £250. I've got the rxv781 and I'm happy with it.

On top of what has been said Yamaha has a much better mobile phone app than Denon. Denon has an utterly crap mobile app that crashes constantly and frankly sucks balls.

better build quality - denons run hotter.

therefore as you would expect a cooler running AVR will last longer than hot one. some people have bought the denon then modded them with fans, etc to help cool them. not ideal especially if under warranty.

running hot is not necessarily an indication of build quality - class A and A/B run hot by design. running hot and not exploding, that's an indication of build quality :p

well i know someone with a 30 year old yamaha amp (stereo one for music) and it's still running fine today. albeit that will be completely different to what they sell today they have a proven track record in terms of reliability. i think denon is much more newer and albeit not had many issues apart from a few hiccups been reliable but people do have their doubts. only time will tell.

i'd personally go pioneer then sony over denon if your excluding yamaha.

I'm also in the market for a new AV receiver, currently got an Sony 2400 but looking to make the jump to 4k soon. I've got a q acoustic 5.1 setup and the Sony and Denon amps often get mentioned as a good match. Any other options to consider?

Disagree with that, went from a Sony 2400ES to a Denon 1300W - the Denon is much cooler, even after a prolonged movie session.

Personal opinion is that the Denon has a much "brighter" sound than the Sony's "warmer" sound - not that it is particularly a bad thing, just takes some getting used to.
