I've not long bought a Sony STRDH810 plus a set of Tannoy SFX5.1.

Generally it seems ok but i've noticed the AV Amp states it requires an impedance of 8ohms but the speaker specification state, and I quoute, the following:

Tannoy SFX5.1 specifications

Recommended amplifier power 15 - 100 Watts
Maximum Sensitivity (2.83Volts at 1m) 85dB
Nominal impedance 6 Ohms
Frequency response (-6dB) 140Hz - 78kHz
Drivers HF: 15mm (0.59") titanium dome, neodymium magnet system

LF: 75mm (3.00") paper cone
Crossover frequency 4.5kHz (mid to high) 140Hz (to subwoofer)
Magnetic shielding Yes
Satellite Weight 750gms (1.65lbs)
Satellite Dimensions H x W x D 140 x 97 x 95mm (5.51 x 3.82 x 3.74")

Optional accessories Satellite floor stands available in matching silver or black

Isn't the 6ohms a bit odd? Are these compatible?

The speakers do sounds a bit short and tinny, if that makes any sense? Chap in the shop says they are fine?

What do you think?

6-8 Ohms is fine. 4 Ohms or less nominal impedance might be a problem

You'll have noticed they don't talk about speaker resistance, but use the word impedance instead. That's because the resistance goes up and down with the frequency. An 8 Ohm impedance speaker might drop as low as 3-4 Ohms and maybe as high 10 -12 Ohms when being driven. Amps can cope with this as long as the nominal impedance is within the amp's spec.

As lucid said (They'll be OK) but I wouldn't turn up the wick on this system TBH.
(chances are the receiver will go pop)

Lower end Yamaha receivers are better suited to that speaker system rather than Sony's (so I've been told). :)
