If your budget will extend to it get mum a nice piece of jewelry to mark the occasion, something she'll keep forever. And I'd be a cliche and get the baby a teddy he can keep too. My daughters have teddies they were given when they were born and I still have mine my dad bought me
When my cousin gave birth, all she got was baby clothes and teddies and stuff, so I decided to get her something she could use.
I bought her a mini bottle of champers, face masks, body lotions etc. I called it a "Pamper Parcel". Well after all that hard work, she needed some pampering
Something to pamper mum (bubblebaths, creams, lotions, potions etc) as I've noticed a lot of people buy stuff for the new baby but never the mum and shes the one who just did all the hard work
As for baby, I've got a silver tray and a boot money box with my wrist tag attached from when I was born - teddys are great but theres a chance they might fall apart. How about an engraved piccy frame for both mum and baby?
As has already mentioned for the new Mum some pampering products. Or if you want to go really mad you could get an eternity ring.
For baby there is nothing wrong with a teddy. I still have the teddy my Mum and Dad gave to me on the day I was born. He was quite expensive I think but he has lasted well and I still have him so I guess it was worth it
