I got my new P1S Combo delivered today after ordering it at the end of the Christmas sale. From the few prints I've made it is impressive :)

Unfortunately it's also making a pretty loud noise some of the time. Video link >here<

Any ideas what it could be?

I'll send the vid to Bambu but I imagine it will be well into next week before they reply.

Thanks for that. I'd searched for various noises but hadn't tried rattle.

That particular screw was tight on mine. I think tomorrow I'll take the sides off and check if anything is loose with the gantries.

I got in contact with Bambu support and sent them a couple of vids.

They asked me to generate some primitives in Bambu Studio, print them out and send them vids. Interestingly the primitives generated this way were nice and quiet to print.

I think part of the problem is geometry created by some CAD programs. Tinkercad for example will draw a circle out of a maximum of 64 straight lines to approximate the shape of a circle. This is noisy to print for me.

I suspect there is also some kind of resonance in the machine printing some geometries but it is printing nicely so I'm just going to monitor it for now.

I sometimes get some prints that are louder than others. You will also see on the Facebook and discord group that the noise on a P1S comes up quite often and it’s usually nothing to worry about and I think it’s partly due to the plastic panels and just the resonance you can sometimes get.

I had to replace the heat bed on mine which required removing all the panels and then some. it’s a pain but not too bad and might be worth taking yours apart and checking over everything if you’re still concerned.

I think part of the problem is perception. Some people talk about how quiet the printer is and how the fan is a bit noisy but fine to sit next to. On the other hand some people say they have to put the printer in silent mode to tolerate being in the same room. My printer is quiet some of the time. Other times when the head is rapidly oscillating back and forth or printing gyroid fill it makes that resonant drumming kind of sound that feels much louder.

Without putting your and their printers next to each other and printing the same thing with the same speeds it is pretty hard to gauge.

Just yesterday I saw a reddit thread of someone questioning the noise with replies saying it shouldn't sound like that. It sounds like there is rather a lot of gain on the microphone but broadly speaking mine sounds the same.

Then I saw a vid of a cat watching a P1S print. It is more muted and the door is closed but has exactly the same drumming type sound here and there.

I'm going to stop worrying about whether something is wrong and just enjoy the printer :) I have it shut away in another room so the noise doesn't really matter.
