New Battery but still not Charging ?

Bought a New Battery for our laptop but its still not Charging, works fine when the power is connected. Also tried uninstalling the battery drivers then letting windows install them .

Any Ideas ?

Theres a bug with the ACPI device in Windows 7 (and possibly 8) that might be to blame IIRC this sorts it http://jeffreypalermo.com/blog/plugged-in-not-charging-windows-7-solution/

Tx for the reply tried that but still the same problem.

Were running vista.

Any other advice appreciated

Is it an official battery or a cheap copy? they dont always work

What laptop is it? In my Dell laptop there's an option in the BIOS to disable battery charging. It's a long shot I know, but worth checking!

In some dell leads there is a central pin which can break off - still powers laptop but won't recharge battery - perhaps it the charger lead?

^As above, had the same issue with an old Dell Inspiron.
Have also seen it if too low a wattage adapter is used?

What make of laptop is it?

If it's a Dell there is also an option in Dell Control Panel (if installed), which disables battery charging.
