Hi Folks

I have a Civic MK8 that has been struggling to start now and again recently.

Used a tester earlier and seem to be at 12.4 volts so close to needing changed. Will a Lion battery do the job?

It’s £40 versus other brands at £100+.

Don’t want to put a carp battery in my Car but it’s no Type R either :D

I don't know if there is a pattern to ebay vouchers .. but maybe something will appear near prime day.

I used to put the Bosch S4 021 in my civic but got fed up of them lasting just over the 4 year mark, and they dying. Currently got the YBX5053 Yuasa Silver High Performance HSB053 which was £61 in Dec 2020. Time will tell if it lasts longer than the Bosch, but it was cheaper and a more powerful battery from what I can remember.

I had been looking at the Yuasa HSB054 battery from Halfords funny. £100 mind you but will last a fair while I'm sure.

Should be able to fit it myself hopefully.

So I ordered the Yuasa HSB054 and come home to discover it says HSB154 on the label.

Will this still work do any of you know please?

I will need to get my mechanic to fit it for me I think as I'm not too confident being honest. Don’t want to make a wasted trip if the battery isn’t right.

It’s a good bit smaller than the Yuasa that’s fitted now but that is 10 years old :D

It will likely work but if it's noticeable smaller then any hold down bracket may not fit, and or the actual battery cables may not reach the terminals.

Personally I'd order the correct one.

Also unless it's a stop start battery that needs coding then changing a battery is easily a DIY job.

Ok thanks! I’ll give them a bell tomorrow and ask them before going any further. Receipt clearly says HSB054 and that’s not what the label says.

Ah well, better getting this sorted now before the weather gets real bad!

I hear ya! I am in NI but so limited options as most of them companies won’t entertain posting a big old battery to here unfortunately.

I will be getting free fitting tomorrow by the time I'm done for the inconvenience of having to come back when they supplied the wrong model :D

You changed the battery since it was at 12.4 volts?

Car has been struggling to start now and again over the last 6 months (in mildish weather).

As far as I understand, a healthy battery should read between 12.6 - 12.8 volts.

Mine was coming in at 12.4 even dropping to 12.3 occasionally.

Putting the above aside, it’s a 10 year old battery and we are heading towards winter.

I made the right choice :)

Look at Tayna batteries. Also hsb054 is the Halfords number for the yuasa battery, you should be looking for ybx5054

If you have an alliance automotive motor factor near you (Napa auto parts) then you can collect for free saving the £7.99 delivery fee

Also yuasa would be my go to battery, varta and Bosch joint 2nd and banner batteries 3rd.

I punched in my reg and Halfords come up with a couple of suggestions just.

The Yuasa HSB054 was one of them. The other was their own brand battery.

I thought if the battery I have (Yuasa) has lasted 10 years then it’s bloody good.

I am looking at this now like it’s power supply for a PC - you don’t cheap out (which I was considering).

Tayna batteries are for remote control Cars are they not? You taking the pee? :D

Edit: they are the same company?

If rest voltage is 12.4V after fully charging then the battery is on its way out - it might work OK now but often the first proper spell of cold weather will finish it off, it isn't unusual for a perfectly healthly car battery to read about 12.4V though if say you are only doing short trips, etc.

At 10 years I'd be changing it though - it can go at pretty much any time especially when it is colder.

Yeah 10 years just goes to show how good Yuasa really are eh!

It’s maybe overkill for an old Car, but it’s never let me down.

Kicking myself now to think I was contemplating a £40 Chinese replacement.

You buy cheap, you buy twice as the saying goes :)
